A horrifying thought struck. What if the door behind the panel were locked? Had she locked it the night before last? She racked her brain, but couldn’t clear her thoughts enough to be sure. She reached the wall and pressed on the panel that hid the door. The wall clicked open and she reached for the door.

“I see my beautiful ghost has returned.”

Kyla whirled to face a large, shadowy figure. Even in the darkness, she recognized the figure of Ewan Fraser. He stood three feet from her. How had he gotten so close without her hearing him?

“You frightened me,” she whispered.

“How can a mere mortal frighten a ghost?” he murmured.

How was she supposed to respond?

He started toward her. Kyla froze when he stopped inches away.

“Looking for your sheepdog?” he asked.

“I— Ye know I have no sheep dog.”

“But you know how to herd sheep.”

She nodded.

He stepped closer. She smelled the sweet scent of…sherry? Port?

“Did you come here looking for me?” he asked.

How she wished she could say yes.

“I can think of no other reason you might be here, where we first met.”

He couldn’t? Kyla flushed and gave thanks he couldn’t see her embarrassment.

He grasped her shoulders. Longing swept through her. She leaned toward him. His head lowered. When their lips touched, she closed her eyes and threw her arms around his neck. He crushed her to him. His tongue slipped past her lips and swept her mouth. Port, he tasted like port. She sucked his tongue deeper. He groaned and her head spun. He liked what she was doing.

What was she doing? If she was gone too long, her father would come in search of her. How long did she have before he would worry?

Kyla slid her hands into the hair at the nape of his neck. The locks were so soft. He urged her backwards until her back met the wall. He pressed his body against hers. She drew a sharp breath when his hard length dug into her abdomen.

He broke the kiss and gently thrust against her. “See what you do to me?” His warm breath washed over her ear.

She shivered.

He thrust again.

“Do ye want me?” he whispered.

She wanted him so badly it hurt.

Kyla nodded.

He swung her into his arms. She cried out and threw her arms around his neck. He took three steps and set her on the nearby table. He eased her legs apart and stepped between her thighs. His hard length came in contact with her mons. Her body tightened. He slipped a hand beneath her skirt and flattened his warm palm on her thigh. Her heart began to pound. She hadn’t known a man’s hand could feel so good on her naked flesh. His hand moved upward. Did he intend to touch her intimately?

His fingers brushed her curls. With his free hand, he grasped her neck and pulled her in for a kiss. Their mouths touched as his thumb slipped into her folds and touched the sensitive nub between her legs. Pleasure radiated through her. She started. Ewan gave a low laugh and began to massage her. What was she supposed to do now? He slid his mouth along her cheek, her jaw, then—God help her—her neck. A shiver raced down her arms. How was his wicked mouth making her feel so good? And his hand. He massaged her faster.

Kyla thrust against his hand, then realized how brazen she’d been.

“Do no’ stop,” he whispered against her ear.

Embarrassed warmth rippled through her. She couldn’t stop.
