But she set the pen aside and snapped the diary shut. She placed it on the edge of the bed, and I watched as she placed her hand over her stomach.

“I’m sorry,” she whispered into the room. “I’m so sorry, little one.” She turned, and I took in her face. She was beautiful with bright blue eyes and a pale complexion. She had that look of a model, flawless and smooth.

And she had black tears rolling down her face. I knew instantly that it was a sign of dark magic. That turning point when emotions took hold, and you no longer had control.

I looked down at her hand, seeing the bump. She had to be a couple of months along. She was small enough that you could hide it, but her hand on her stomach gave it away.

“You deserve so much better,” she whispered, her eyes seeming to stare right at me. “I’m broken, and I can’t be repaired.”

I came slamming back into the room with Klaus. He was holding my shoulders, his eyes staring at me. “Aubrey?”

I blinked, letting my mind catch up with what I just saw. “She was pregnant.”

Klaus’s eyebrows went up. “Who?”

“The witch… she was pregnant. She was going to write in the diary about that day she was left at the altar. She was pregnant. She had black tears rolling down her face. She knew she was changing into something sinister. She was apologizing.”

I frowned. “There’s a child out there. This child has to be an adult now. They have to know something. They must know the answer or have been helping keep this going or something.” They were the key to our problems.

Klaus didn’t seem to know what to do with that information. He slowly pulled the diary from my hands and pulled me close. “Okay, we will tell the others about this.”

Chapter 25 - Klaus

“Alright, Cal. I’m leaving.”

Cal glanced up from his stack of paper and raised an eyebrow at me. He then looked down at his watch. “It’s three.”

I nodded. “Yeah, and I’m leaving. Everything I needed to get done for today is done.”

He waved a hand at his desk. “Do you see this big ass stack of paper? Do you think it’s magically going to get done?”

I leaned against the frame of the door. “Cal, I’m leaving for the day. I’m taking my wife out for dinner since I haven’t had a day to myself in over two weeks since the incident. And after dinner, I’m going home and fucking my wife. If you call me and ask where I am, or get in the way of anything that I have planned for the rest of the day, that stack will be the last thing for you to worry about.”

Cal cleared his throat. “Okay, you’re leaving.”

“Smart move.” I pushed off the doorframe and headed out. I’d blocked off the last part of my schedule today, and I had nothing to do.

Aubrey and I had hardly seen each other since everything had settled down. I had things I had to catch up on since I’d been out of the office for a while, and when I got home, Aubrey was already in bed. We hardly saw each other over the past two weeks, and I missed her.

I wanted to spend time alone with her and just not worry about anything else. That and I desperately wanted to fuck my wife. I had watched her walk around the house, and I ached for her.

I arrived home and found Aubrey cleaning the sliding window at the back. She was wearing a pair of shorts that cut just below her ass and a sports bra. She paused, standing on her tiptoes as she reached for the top. She glanced over her shoulder as she heard me come inside.

“Klaus, what are you doing home so early?”

“I left you a note that I was going to be home early.”

She turned. “I know, but you also have been super busy, so I figured it wouldn’t happen.”

Her hair was pulled in a messy bun, and she had dirt on her hands. You could tell she’d been cleaning since she got up.

“Well, I’m home now, and I wanted to take you out for dinner.”

She frowned. “I’m not exactly dressed for going out. Are you sure you don’t want to just rest up? I’m sure you’re tired from everything these past couple of weeks.”

“We aren’t going anywhere fancy. But you’ll probably want to shower and change. Wear something comfortable.”

She crossed her arms. “Honey, I don’t want you to waste any time if you need to be in the office. I can cook dinner tonight.”
