"Nothing that comes to mind," I told her. "On the pizza, that is." I then tilted my head at her. "Have you given any thought to my offer?" She looked like a deer in the headlights, and I felt my arousal grow as I watched her. "Think about it. You could be debt free and one of the most respected women on the compound. Hell, you'd be the most respected woman in the entire town. I only ask that you stay loyal to me."
I rose to my feet and started towards her. "I’d treat you like the princess you are, and I would be your loving, caring Daddy as soon as you paid off your debt." I held her close and felt her tiny body quivering as she stared up at me.
"What if that's not what I want?" she asked, her voice far steadier than her words. "What if I want something else?"
I frowned and lowered my head, my lips just a breath away from her ears.
"What is it you want then?" I asked, my voice low and husky. "If you could have anything in the world, regardless of what it was, what would it be?"
She pulled her head away from me so that she could look me straight in the eye.
"Not power," she informed me, catching me by surprise. "I want a normal life. One where I'm able to find love instead of just lust. One where passion burns inside me while my heart leaps and overflows in love. I want to be loved as well as lusted after, and not just wanted for my body." She was still shaking as she pulled away from me. "In other words, a life without you."
I frowned as I shook my head at her. "Is there anything I can do to change your mind?" I asked, and she thought for a moment.
"Show me that it's not just about having me to yourself," she instructed me, still speaking in riddles. "Show me you are capable of more than just pleasure but also of compassion and love." She pulled free from my grasp and made her way over to the door, stopping halfway out. "The day you can show me you can love beyond physical pleasure is the day I will put myself at your mercy."
With that, she made her way out of the office, leaving me alone and scratching my head.
What was she talking about? What was love without physical pleasure? I leaned against the desk, completely lost in thought while I processed her words. The longer I tried to solve the riddle she had given me, the more confused I became. Finally, I realized that maybe one or two people on the compound might know the answer to her request. I was going to have to visit Jagger and Adam. If anyone could help me understand exactly what Lydia was asking for, it was them. They were currently the only ones who were in serious relationships, and Adam had a baby on the way.
I was just about to go look for Adam when Jagger came by. Seeing me still sitting there, he smiled at me.
"Hey," he said as he leaned against the doorway. "You alright there, boss? You look lost for words or something."
I sighed as I looked up at him. "Women trouble," I admitted as I looked up at him. "I don't know what to do."
Jagger laughed and closed the door behind him before closing the distance between us.
"I can't believe this is happening," he said as he sat down at the chair across from me. "Tell me everything…"
CHAPTER FIVE
Lydia
The encounters I had with Chase had become heated and unbearable and today I learned the truth about his intentions towards me. I should have known from the start that all he wanted was my flesh, not me; and I was growing more hopeless by the day now that I knew the truth. It wasn't fair. This all started with Joyce, and I was paying the price for her mess up. Depression slowly started to set in, and I wished I could have been debt-free and as far from here as possible. What I wanted was a normal life.
“Excuse me,” said a strange man whom I had yet to meet. “Is Chase in his office? I was told he wanted to see me.” I frowned as I looked up at him.
“No, he’s actually visiting someone at the house,” I informed him. He groaned and rubbed the back of his neck, clearly distressed by what I had just said.
“Any idea when he’ll be back or where he is?” he asked, and I shook my head.
“He didn’t say,” I informed him, growing more perplexed by his question. “Just something about needing to talk to someone named Adam or Jagger.” He paused as he turned to look at me.
“I’m Adam,” he said, a gentle smile on his face. “I think he was looking for me.” It was at that moment I got a good look at him.
He was tall and muscular, but his right hand looked slightly different from his left. He looked as though he was still recovering from a broken arm or wrist, but he wasn’t wearing a cast. Instead, his bare arm had a slightly lighter color than the other hand, and I found it impossible to pull my gaze away.
“Wondering about my arm, aren’t you?” he asked, catching me off guard. Realizing that I had been caught staring, I shook my head at him.
“I’m so sorry,” I apologized immediately. “I just… I…” He laughed.
“It’s perfectly alright,” he told me as he tugged his long sleeve down to cover his mangled wrist. “I broke it a couple months ago and finally got the cast off last month. I’m just in the process of regaining my strength after the long period of lack of use.” I lowered my gaze, burning in disappointment at the fact that I had been staring at his wrist the way I had. Before I could say anything, I saw someone coming up the stairs towards us. It was Chase.
Chase had a look of hurt and betrayal the likes of which I had never seen in all my life. He looked from me to Adam and back, and I immediately realized how bad it must look. In a feeble attempt to clear the air of all misunderstanding before things could escalate, I smiled at Chase, hoping that he would understand.
“Adam here was just looking for you,” I informed him. “He said that you were looking for him and he came to see you.” Adam immediately nodded in agreement, but Chase didn’t budge. Instead, he looked at me.
