CHAPTER FOUR

Scott

When I got to the main house for dinner, I wasn't expecting Bradley to start a brawl with me all because I had shown up for dinner. At first, he started yelling at me because he didn't think I should be at dinner when I had so much work to do, but, after telling him that Adam had said that he would take care of the rest of the work while I went to dinner, he grew even more angry. Before I could even stop him, he was already marching out the back door and towards the auto repair shop.

"You better hope it's done right," he said as he marched across the dirt lot as the sun set. "I don't care if Adam told you that you could go before it was finished. Chase expects that motorcycle to be fixed before the end of the day, and you better hope it's fixed." Doing my best not to further the situation, I followed him to the auto repair shop, debating on whether or not I should point out that I already knew the truth of the situation.

Before I had left, Adam had advised me not to try to start a fight with Bradley regarding the situation. Because I was still considered new, I was still being watched by Chase and the other members of the group. That meant that, if I messed up or caused too much trouble, I could be out in a heartbeat, and I didn't want to leave. So, after Adam had reassured me that he would take care of the situation for me so that I didn't get in trouble, he sent me on my way to dinner.

In all honesty, I didn't know what Bradley's problem was. I understood that it was frustrating that he didn't get to ride his motorcycle while in a motorcycle club, but that was no excuse for mistreating people who were supposed to be fixing it in the first place. As much as I wanted to have it out with him and defend myself, I knew it was better to leave things be, especially since I was still considered on probation. So, as we drew closer to the auto repair shop, I prayed that Adam was in a better mood than Bradley and would be able to defuse the situation before things got out of hand.

Adam was still bent over one of the motorcycles that he had been repairing when I left for dinner when we arrived. His clothes were covered in dust and oil, and his face was drenched in sweat. The way he was working, he looked as though he hadn't slept in weeks. Looking up at the two of us, Adam smiled.

"I thought you both would be coming down to check on the motorcycle," he commented calmly as he rose to his feet. Crossing his arms across his chest, he looked at Bradley. "I can understand teasing the new guy a little, but, at the same time, this was a bit far, even for you. You should know better." Bradley raised an eyebrow at him as he crossed his arms across his chest as well.

"I don't know what you're talking about," he commented as he looked away. "All I asked was that the new guy fixed the motorcycle. Everything else was on him." Adam rolled his eyes as he shook his head at Bradley before looking at me.

"Go ahead and head back to dinner," he instructed me, and I nodded in response. Without hesitation, I did exactly as Adam's head and made my way back to the main house, not wanting to be around whenever Adam confronted Bradley for mistreating me.

By the time, I got back to the main house. Almost everybody had gotten their meal and was sitting down to eat. The only people who left was Megan, Nathan's Little, and the woman who had arrived earlier that same day. Seeing the two women, I stopped and tilted my head at them as I studied them. They both looked so much alike that they could have been siblings, and I had to take a second to compare the two of them.

Both had the same strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes, and they were both approximately the same height. The closer I looked at the two, the more I realized they were likely twins rather than just siblings. Just as both women turned around, I realized I was in their way much too late.

Both women ran right into me, spilling the contents of their plates down the front of my messy uniform. Both took a step back, completely startled by the situation, and I was relieved when I realized that the food had cooled down enough so that it didn't burn me as it spilled down the front of me. Taking a step back myself, I looked at the two of them.

"I am so sorry," I apologize as I brushed the main mess off my jeans. Immediately, Nathan came marching into the room and stopped to look at me.

"What on Earth happened?" he asked as he stared me down. Seeing the look of anger on his face, I remembered how territorial he was of Megan and knew that I had to diffuse the situation before he got the wrong idea.

"It was my fault," I informed him. "I had just come into the main house for dinner and didn't realize that they were almost done. I just went to reach for a plate and found out too late that I was in their way." At first, Nathan didn't seem convinced as he turned to look at Megan.

"Did he hurt you?" he asked, acting as though she was the one who was wearing all the food, not me. Immediately, Megan shook her head and gave me an apologetic smile.

"Of course not," she replied casually before looking at the woman next to her. "We should have been looking where we were going, shouldn't we have?" The woman next to her nodded in agreement as she smiled up at Nathan.

"I shouldn't have been distracting Megan in the first place," she told him, but Nathan shook his head as he looked at her.

"I don't blame either of you," he said before turning his attention back to me. "You should have been paying more attention to where you were going and what was going on." Before I could say anything, Chase came out of the living room and looked at the four of us.

"Seems as though you guys made a bit of a mess," he commented casually as he looked over at Nathan. "Take it easy on him, will you? Accidents happen. As far as I can tell, no harm's been done." Nathan started to protest, but Chase, who clearly wasn't done with the conversation, turned to look at the woman beside Megan. "Am I right, Amanda?" The woman, Amanda, smiled politely as she nodded in agreement.

"That's right," she reassured him. "It was just an accident." Turning to look at me, she continued. "I'm so sorry for everything." Seeing the polite smile on her face, I couldn't help but smile in return.

"It's alright," I reassured her. "No harm done." Seeing our polite exchange, Chase turned back to Nathan.

"Leave Scott alone," he ordered. "We have work we need to get done anyways." With that, he took off back towards the living room, and Nathan followed. As soon as we were alone, Megan looked back at me.

"Sorry about that, Scott," she told me as she risked a glance back at the table. Before I even had a chance to answer, she tugged at Amanda's arm. "Let's get our plates and go eat. I'm starving."

Immediately, the two went back to work, and I stood back by the back door, watching the two of them as they went back to fixing their plates. When they were finally done, I made my way over to the table just as Adam entered the kitchen. Seeing the mess on my clothing, he frowned in confusion.

"Are you okay?" he asked, his voice full of concern. "What happened?" Even though I heard his voice, my attention was not on him. Instead, it was on the woman they had called Amanda.

CHAPTER FIVE

Amanda

As I followed Megan to the living room to enjoy our dinner, I couldn't take my mind off the man I had just seen. He was tall and buff looking, but he was so polite and timid that it was impossible to imagine him as part of the motorcycle club. He looks like the kind of person who ran a restaurant rather than worked in the auto repair shop of a motorcycle club's compound. Confused by his overall appearance, I puzzled over him while Megan tugged at my arm.
