Of course, Chase made us go collect debts right at dinner time. In his opinion, it was the best time to catch people who owed the group money. However, it also cost us our dinner at the compound.

I was used to having to miss dinner because of people like Trenton, people always looked for a reason to skip out and miss our visits whenever we came around to collect the debt. So, it was very rare that we were actually back in time for dinner at the compound. The last time we had actually made it back to the compound in time for dinner was when Rafael helped Sandra get away from Will, her ex. Of course, he had done much more than help her get away, but that was a dark secret we were going to take to our graves.

"Come on," Patrick said as he smiled reassuringly at me. "Let's check the parking lot and see if the car is still there. If not, we'll circle back." I was about to agree with him when the door opened to reveal a young woman.

"Can I help you?" she asked as she peeked out at us through a half closed door. A bit caught off guard, I stared at her in shock and disbelief.

"Allison?" I asked, and she nodded her head in response.

"Yes," she said as she narrowed her eyes at me. "Who wants to know?" Immediately, I smiled at her.

"It's Richard," I reminded her. "Sandra's friend from the bakery… We met earlier this week." Immediately, a smile spread across her face as she held the door open a bit wider.

Allison was a tiny woman with a beautiful smile who had stopped by the bakery the other day in order to buy coffee while out running errands. She was friends with Sandra, and Sandra had told me that she had a boyfriend who acted just like Will. I wasn't expecting to see her while collecting Trenton's debt, but it was great to see her again.

"Right," she said as she looked up at me. "It's great to see you again. How have you been?" I was about to respond when I saw Trenton come out of the hallway.

"Close the damn door," he barked angrily at her as he made his way into the living room." You're letting all the heat out of the apartment." Seeing me, he paused, and a look of panic washed over him as he shook his head at me. "What are you still doing here beside me?" Patrick smirked and made his way into the apartment, brushing past Allison.

"We're here to collect your debt," he informed Trenton, completely ignoring Allison as he allowed himself into the apartment. "Did you really think you were going to escape us?" As Trenton backed away from Patrick, Allison turned to look at me.

"What is he talking about?" she asked, looking concerned as she spoke. "Is something wrong?" Not wanting to worry her, especially since she had nothing to do with all of this, I took a deep breath as I looked at her.

"Trenton here borrowed money from a friend of ours, and he's refusing to pay it back," I informed her. "We're just here to get the money back from him." She turned pale as she turned to look at him.

"Trenton, is that true?" she asked, sounding both shocked and confused. Immediately, Trenton turned to glare at her.

"Shut up!" he commanded, sounding like the piece of trash I knew he was. "This doesn't concern you." Anger rose inside me as I realized he was even worse than I originally thought.

"It does concern her," I told him, ignoring the fact that Patrick was already giving me a warning look. "Until you pay off your full debt, she's coming with us." All three of them stared at me in shock and confusion until Patrick seemed to finally understand what I was doing.

"That's right," he agreed, pretending to have been in on it since the start. Trenton turned pale as he looked from me to Patrick and back, as if trying to decide if we were serious or not.

"That wasn't part of the agreement," he stuttered, trying to think of what to say. "Let me talk to Chase. Surely you can't mean it." Knowing that, if a woman was in danger, Chase would back us up, I nodded my head in response.

"Go ahead and call him," I told him. "Until you have everything sorted out with him, she's coming with us." Turning to look at Allison, I continued. "Come with us, please." She looked afraid as she stared at me in disbelief, but, when I offered her my hand, she seemed to understand what I was doing.

"Yes, sir," she said as she took my hand. Immediately, Trenton shook his head.

"You're not taking her," he demanded as he reached for Allison. Immediately, I pulled her out into the hallway and started down the hall while Patrick stayed behind to explain to him that she would be allowed to return home once the debt was paid off. As soon as we were at the elevator, I pressed the button for the elevator.

"Am I really going to have to stay with you until he pays his debt?" she asked, sounding a bit worried as she spoke. A smile spread across my face as I shook my head in response.

"Of course not,' I reassured her. "We're just having you come with us so you can escape that piece of trash."

CHAPTER THREE

Allison

Even though I didn't know him too well, I was eager to get away from Trenton. At this point, anything was better than staying with Trenton, especially after the argument we had almost gotten into. So, without asking anymore questions, I followed Richard down to the parking lot and out to the car.

As soon as we were in the car, we waited patiently for the other man to return from the apartment complex. When he came out, Richard started the car, and we drove off just as Trenton came out of the complex to try to stop us. By then, we were already on our way to what they referred to as the compound.

Normally, I would have been terrified that I was leaving with two complete strangers. However, I had already met Sandra, a kind woman who worked at the bakery near the grocery store. She had told me about how one of the men saved her from her abusive ex boyfriend and told me to let her know if I ever needed help escaping Trenton. I had promised I would, but I wasn't sure if I was going to or not.

As much as I hated to say it, I was afraid to leave Trenton. Despite the fact that he was abusive and a huge jerk, I didn't know any life without him, especially since we had moved in together as soon as my parents died in a car accident earlier that same year. In my opinion, I owed him my very life, and I didn't know how else to repay him.

By the time we arrived at what they referred to as the compound, it was after dark, and I frowned as I looked around at the dirt lot they called the compound. There were several houses on the property, and I started to wonder if I had made a huge mistake. As we pulled into the lot, a few people were already heading out to greet us.
