I just hope that she can forgive me for just showing up like that.

Serena

There was nothing but silence between Kellan and me as he led me into my home, the tension high in the air. I knew I should be angry with him for following me to the restaurant, but at the same time, I was quite grateful. I knew Lazarus hated me, but I honestly thought he would’ve at least calmed down and was able to talk like adults. I guess I hurt him a lot more than I thought I did.

I guess apologizing wouldn’t be enough, and I don’t really blame him either.

“I’m sorry I went there without telling you.” Kellan apologized, his tone soft but stern, “I know it was wrong, but I would do it all over again to have your back in this. I shouldn’t have let you go like that in the first place by yourself, but I didn’t want to pressure you either. I don’t regret it.”

I knew I should be upset with him, but I shook my head, “it’s okay. I don’t blame you for looking out for me since we’re dating… it didn’t go as well as I thought it would.”

“That’s okay.” Kellan quickly said, wrapping his arms around me from behind, “you don’t need to worry about him anymore. You apologized, and now you can move on. It’s up to him whether or not he continues to want to hold onto that hate. Don’t blame yourself for it if he can’t grow up.”

I know he was trying to make me feel better, but I didn’t like it, “I don’t blame him for hating me, Kellan, I really hurt him back then. But, I am just going to go forward and know that I did everything I could to make things better.”

Kellan was silent for a long moment, and I could feel the tension rolling off of him in waves. I know he hated the fact that I worried about what I had done to Lazarus, that I would even be concerned for someone who was my ex. I should probably stop talking about this because I feel like it would just make things worse.

“What do you want to do tonight?” I asked him, trying to change the subject before anything got worse, “I was thinking of maybe watching a movie and popcorn. We can make it to be like a little date.”

Kellan let go of me, taking a step back, “um, sure. I need to go do a few things first, okay? I’ll be back later.”

My eyebrows furrowed in confusion, but as I turned to ask him where he was going, he had disappeared out of the room, leaving. I wasn’t sure if he was angry or not, but it irritated me a little bit that he didn’t just stay and try to talk to me instead of going off to wherever. I shouldn’t even be getting irritated with him, but my patience has worn thin today.

Can it get any worse?

It was as if karma wanted to be a jerk today because all of a sudden, I heard a knock coming from the front door. I huffed in annoyance, already wishing this day to be over with as I walked to the front door, wondering who it could be. Can’t a girl ever catch a break?

“Who-“ I started to speak as I opened the door, but froze at who I saw standing there.

“MOTHER?”
