Bane ignored his teasing then turned to face Drew. “Actually, your rescue was a little disappointing. I somehow expected more of a fight from them. But they died in their sleep. Even the guy in the hall was asleep.”
“Well, I thank you for killing the guy in the room with me. He sounded worse than a buzzsaw.” Drew grinned.
“So if there were three men left standing, they would have gotten in touch with what’s left of that group,” James said as he looked through the gadget bag Bane just gave to him. He pulled a scanner out of it and went over to Drew. “Just what I needed.” He glanced at Bane. “You always know whatever it is, don’t ya?”
Bane shrugged. “Been in the game too long to fold. I want every damn Blood Wolve to bleed the fuck out.”
Drew shivered as he said, “You got a good start on that tonight.”
James smirked as he immediately scanned Drew’s body. He then moved behind him. Finally, when he reached his neck the scanner beeped.
“What the hell?” Drew growled.
“You were tagged, hotshot.” James shut the scanner off and leaned in closer to study the back of Drew’s neck.
“Shit,” Bane swore. “That means they will be at my front door.”
“You have to lock this house down,” Shay said. “With the front gate messed up they will try to get inside and free everyone.”
Bane nodded then swung around and flipped a switch on the wall pad. They all heard several bangs and metallic clicks then a loud boom as the whole house locked up.
“Wow,” James quipped. “I love all the extras you added to the house, Bane.”
“Get this fucking tracker out of me,” Drew exclaimed. “They must have slipped it in when I was knocked out.”
James reached up and brushed his finger over the small cut to find out how deep the implant was. When he felt it just under the skin he looked at Bane and nodded. “We should be able to pop it right out.”
Bane glared at him and said just two words, “Do it.” He pointed to a cabinet with glass doors.
James walked over to the cabinet and opened it up.
They could all see the medical supplies inside.
James grabbed a scalpel, tweezers, some gauze and medical tape. He then took out a rubbing alcohol bottle and poured it over the scalpel. “Have a seat at my medical table,” he told Drew with a smirk. And when he did, James swung the strong light on that table over the small wound. He poured the alcohol on the back of his neck then told Drew not to move. He drew the scalpel lightly along the healing line and blood seeped through the skin.
Drew showed no reaction as he didn’t move.
James picked up the tweezers and plucked the transmitter out of his skin. They all heard a click of metal hitting metal.
Bane got up and walked over. He reached for his weapon and with one strong blow he smashed the tracking unit into bits.
Meanwhile, James pinched the edges of the tiny wound together, added gauze and taped it shut. “Easy as pie.”
“Too bad, we can’t fix the front gate as easily as that,” Shay grumbled.
James looked up at Bane as he raised a brow at him. He knew this man probably better than anyone here. He knew Bane always had something up his sleeve, so to speak.
“Who says we can’t?” Bane stepped over to one of his monitors and typed in a few commands.
A low rumbling could be heard now.
Everyone stepped up behind Bane and watched the screen. The ground where the front gate was opened up and a solid panel of steel rose to fill in the hole left behind in the explosion. It fit tightly between the two first posts and when it locked into place, the mangled front gate was now locked against anything coming or going.
Shay stared at it and looked impressed. “The Pentagon could use a gadget like this.”
“Nah, they can’t afford it,” Bane replied.
Pappy laughed.
