“What about the perimeter?” Sam asked. “Like the side fencing and the back?”

Bane scoffed. “Electrified and if they get around that there is what I call spitting nails.”

“Spitting?” Mountain asked.

“Sure, connected to ground mines of a type. Only it initiates actual hails of spitting nails.”

“Ouch!” Hound rubbed at his arms as if he could feel that stinging pain.

“I swear Bane, I am beginning to think you missed your calling in a way,” Pappy said. “We could have used you in the ranks.”

“Nah, a killer was what I was meant to be. In a long line of killers really.”

“Yes, but you could have been like Tony Stark,” James countered. “Inventing all this cool military grade stuff.”

“Still made more money killing people.” Bane shook his head.

“So were you ever in the military?” Drew asked. “Like that’s where most men get to do that.”

At this pointed question, everyone in the room got quiet.

Chapter Seven

Bane looked over at Shay.

Shay raised his hands up at him. “Not like we are gonna talk about your past, man. Even to my brother. That’s your business.”

Bane looked over at Drew and simply stated it, “I was a full-blown contract killer.”

“Wait...” Drew stared at him as recognition finally dawned. “As in Bane Jessin, the hitman?”

“Give this man a prize!” James laughed.

“Well, that explains it,” Drew concluded. “Coming in like dark silent death and delivering them all a dark silent death.”

“Wow, brother, that's almost poetic,” Shay said.

“I agree,” James concurred.

“You all act like blood and gore is acceptable,” Mountain commented.

Drew stared at him. “If they’d captured you and said they were going to end you. Spilling their blood and gore is damn well acceptable.”

Sam shrugged. “Yeah, when you go to war, there’s no playin’, ya know?”

“There has to be some rules of engagement,” Mountain argued.

“I think Bane’s rules are better.” Hound snickered.

“So do we know how many more Black Wolves are still out there?” Sam asked.

Bane shrugged. “There could be anywhere between 25 to 50 left. We never did get a total number of those that got caught in the cross over.”

“Then if they tracked me to this address, we have to be ready for anything,” Drew pointed out.

Bane silently went over to another monitor and turned it on. Then he growled and snapped his head up to ask James, “How many heat signatures are at the cabin?”

James brought up the cabin cameras on the security screens. “Too fucking many. They’re inside already.”
