I’ve done all the Google searches. All the career tests. Everything I get feels too depressing or not
exciting enough.
Maybe that’s my problem. I’m chasing excitement. The thought of having a boring desk job
doesn’t light my soul on fire.
“No, not yet. But I’ve still got time. I’ll figure something out.”
“You always do,” Ezra says. It warms my heart that he has faith in me. Not many people do. I
know Stella does. Hazel does too. She always tries to give me her best pep talks. But knowing Ezra
believes in me… I don’t know. It feels reassuring.
“How’s the whole doctor thing going?” Stella asks.
“The doctor thing is going well so far. I’m doing clinicals with a family care doctor right now.
Honestly, I’m just ready to skip to the part where I can do my own thing, but I’ve got a few more years
before that can happen.”
“A.k.a, when you have time to actually have fun with all the women throwing themselves at you?”
I tease him, and he tugs a chunk of my hair, making me laugh.
“Shut up. You’re one to talk, Red.”
“Ezra doesn’t do hookups anyway. He’s basically a woman and likes to be tied down,” Ozzy says.
“Says the guy who has been tied down for years,” Ezra throws back at him.
“Yeah, but I was only able to be tied down by one woman.” Ozzy looks longingly into Stella’s
eyes.
“Gag,” I say and stick my finger in my mouth.
“Don’t worry, Red. You’ll get there one day.” Ezra looks at me with those bright blue eyes, and
my stomach flutters. Damn it. Why does that keep happening?
He doesn’t pull his gaze from me, and my mouth goes dry. I feel like his crystal blue eyes are
putting me in a trance.
He runs his tongue along his bottom lip.
I force myself to look away.
What is wrong with me? This is Ezra. My best friend, Ezra. I need to stop looking at him like that,
and he sure as hell needs to stop looking at me like that, too.
Maybe this is because of my current ban on men. My mind and vagina just aren’t thinking straight.
I clear my throat. “I don’t know if I ever want to be there. I don’t think relationships are for me.
