Maybe I shouldn’t have kissed her.
Maybe I shouldn’t have asked to fuck her for thirty days.
Maybe I ruined our friendship.
But maybe I don’t want our friendship if I can’t have her like I want her. I’m stringing myself
along for a woman who doesn’t want me even though she has to know that I would be the best partner
for her.
Wes eventually spots me drinking away my sorrows and walks over to me.
“Hey man, you good?”
“Yeah. I’m good. It was a beautiful wedding. I’m so happy for you.” I am happy for my friend,
even if I’m a little jealous that I’m not at the same place in life.
“Thanks. Yeah, I got lucky with Hazel.” He really did. They’ve been through so much shit
together. It definitely was shocking for all of us when he sat us down and told us he got his
microeconomics professor pregnant. But it ended up being the best thing to ever happen to him, and
now, here we are. “You think you might want this one day?”
I look around at everyone enjoying themselves and celebrating love. My eyes, once again, land on
Celine. She hasn’t looked for me at all since she left the hallway with Stella. “Yeah, I hope so, man.
Just got to find the right one.”
Wes’s gaze follows mine until it reaches Celine. “Have you tried talking to her?” He knows I’ve
always had a thing for her and that I let myself be friend-zoned so I could be close to her, like a
fucking idiot.
I shrug my shoulders and take a sip of my beer. I don’t want to tell anyone what I talked to Celine
about. Not until I know what she’s going to decide.
Wes puts his hand on my shoulder. “Don’t worry, man. The right one is out there for you.”
“Yeah, hopefully.” I take another swig of my beer.
Hazel signals something to Wes, and he nods. He pats my back and says, “Come on, we’re about
to do the send-off. We have sparklers or some shit.”
Chapter 7
Celine
I ’m trying to keep my shit together. I’m trying really hard, but my mind keeps wandering back to
that kiss.
