hates confrontation so much that he won’t even stop me from snapping at the girl he’s sleeping with.

“Did you get shot down? I told you that was going to happen.” She continues to press the issue

like my life is just one big joke to her.

I stop just inches from my door and turn to her. “I said it’s none of your damn business, so shut the

fuck up.”

“Jeez, dude. Don’t take your blue balls out on me.” She throws her hands up in defense.

I don’t respond. Anything I say right now would be harsh. It’s better to say nothing at all. I go to

my room and shut myself in there for the rest of the day. I think about texting Celine back later in the

day, but I just can’t. Maybe if I don’t answer for a few days, we can pretend that Saturday night didn’t

happen.

The next morning I’m still in a shitty mood, but at least I’m back on my normal grind so I can keep

my mind off everything else.

Before I leave for the day, Sadie tries to talk to me again about my weekend. Only this time, she’s

officially rejected me, but I know what she’s going to say.

“No worries.” She brushes it off. “You know I’m here if you need to talk, right?”

I finally look over at her. Sadie’s a nice girl. She’s fun to be around, obviously smart, and

definitely easy on the eyes. And she actually wants me. Why couldn’t I have a thing for her? Why do I

have to torture myself wanting someone who has made it clear she doesn’t want to be romantically

linked to me? All of this is rolling around in my head, but I let out a measly, “Yeah, sure.”

She nods before grabbing her things and leaving for the day. Liam heads out shortly after Sadie

does. Then I grab all my things and leave, but not before taking one more look at my phone, debating

if I should respond to Celine.

I don’t do it.

I pocket my phone and head down to my car.

The heavy weight from not talking to Celine sits on my shoulders as I go through my rotations for

the day. I’m currently working with a general practitioner at a family medicine clinic. I really like this
