outsider, but really it’s organized chaos. I know where everything is, and that’s all that matters.
I flop down on my bed, which is so much bigger than the tiny twin I had to sleep on in my dorm
room my first year of college, and mentally thank Ezra for leaving this bed behind when he left.
I grab my phone and pull up my messages.
Celine: What color dress should I wear to the wedding?
Ezra: Highlighter yellow.
Celine: I hate you.
Celine: That is not helpful.
Ezra: Haha. You could never hate me.
Celine: We shall see…
Ezra: Anyways… I don’t know. I guess whatever color you feel good in. Maybe not white?
Celine: Obviously. You’re no help at all.
Ezra: I’m sure you’ll pick something great without any input from me.
Maybe Ezra and I would have been together in another life, but I just can’t see that happening for
us now. We are both comfortably tucked away in our friend zones, and I’m pretty sure that’s where we
need to stay.

Invite you to their wedding
“S o you’re actually going to this?” Sadie asks me after she read the entire wedding invitation
aloud like I haven’t already read it. I watch her golden-brown hands as she bends the cardstock
like she’s testing its durability.
“Of course I’m going. Wes is my best friend. I’m also in the wedding party, so… might look bad if
I don’t attend.” I grab the invitation from her. “Why does it matter?”
She raises her eyebrows in question. “It doesn’t matter. It just seems like a long way to drive for a
wedding. And it’s not like you to take a day off from clinicals.”
