My stomach growls just as the doorbell rings with our food.
We sit down to eat around the coffee table just like we always used to. Stella and Ozzy must be
out for the night because we have the whole house to ourselves.
“Do you remember that time I was trying to help you study for the MCATs?” I ask, and I can tell
he instantly knows what I’m talking about. He chokes on his food as he laughs.
“Yes, and you pronounced membrane as membrane-y.” I laugh. In my defense, everything in
science is in Latin, and I had been over-pronouncing everything all night. My brain was a complete
mess, and I ended up laughing so hard I cried. “And then you started drawing weird faces in my
organic chemistry diagrams.”
“Oh, yeah. I forgot about those. I should’ve taken pictures.”
“I still have them if you want them.” My fork stops in mid-air.
“You still have them?” I repeat slowly.
“Yeah.” He looks over at me. “Why?”
I put my fork back on my plate. “Why did you keep something like that?”
He shrugs. “It was cute.” He pauses for a minute and studies my shocked face. “Don’t make it
weird, Celine. It’s no big deal.” I plaster on a smile and take my attention back to my food. It might
not be a big deal to him, but he kept my doodles. Something so small. I’ve never kept anything like
that. I’ve never kept any notes from anyone, let alone simple doodles.
It makes my heart beat a little faster.
I finish my food a little faster than I normally would. I need to get Ezra into my bed as quickly as
possible. I don’t even bother cleaning up our mess. As soon as he finishes his last bite, I jump on him
and make him carry me up to my room, where he makes good on his promise of taking his time with
me.
Chapter 19
Ezra
W ith summer approaching, the temperatures are starting to go up. I’m definitely not looking
forward to having to wear a tuxedo all afternoon in a house full of people, which is why I
opted to wear shorts and a T-shirt for the first half of my day. There is no way I’m making the
entire three-hour drive from my apartment to my parent’s house in Savannah in a tux.
I’m changing at Celine’s house when I pick her up. That only leaves me in the car with a tux on for
