They are not suggesting I. . . share a room. . . with Hawke? He’s arrogant and conceited and thinks he’s God’s gift to women. There’s no way I’ll be able to spend two weeks in a small room with him.

No. I can’t.

“No,” I tell them and see Mrs. Wilson’s face fall a little. “There has to be someone else he can stay with. Are there any other rooms available?”

“Every room is booked,” my mom informs me. “We tried to get him one last night.”

“Can’t he stay with Holden?” I suggest.

“Holden is going to be with his girlfriend. I’m sure they want some privacy. And their room is only one king bed. Yours has two queen beds.” Normally, I would’ve gone for a king bed, but by the time I got around to booking my room, everything else was already gone. “And obviously, Susan and Todd want some alone time.” Gross. I do not need to think about the Wilsons needing alone time.

“There has to be another option,” I plead.

My mom sighs and pulls me more towards the side. “Summer, if you won’t do it for me, do it for Susan. It means so much to her that her oldest son could make this trip. There’s nowhere else for him to stay. Please.”

I look over Mom’s shoulder at Susan standing there with hopeful eyes. Seeing her, I know what my answer will be, and it frustrates the hell out of me that I have such a soft spot for her.

I groan. “Fine.”

Mom smiles and brings me into a tight hug. “Thank you, Summer. You have no idea how much we appreciate it.”

“Mm-hmm. You owe me big.”

“Anything you want. You name it.”

I nod, and Mom tells Susan the good news for them and the terrible news for me.

I glance at Hawke, who’s talking about something with our dads. Of course, he catches me looking at him. I can’t even imagine the disgust on my face right now, but it doesn’t deter him from smiling back at me.

He must have some sort of internal radar that alerts him whenever a woman is giving him attention. My mom said they looked for rooms last night. It hits me that Hawke probably knew this whole time what my mom was going to ask me. He knew I’d cave, and we’d end up sharing a room together. It makes me irrationally angry to think about. He had the entire flight to say something and didn’t. Who goes on a trip without having a room booked? He just assumed someone would bend to his will and take him in. Another sign that his arrogance is still in full effect.

He winks at me, and I scoff, rolling my eyes.

I’m already regretting coming on this trip.

CHAPTER 4

Summer

Hawke and I are in the opposite tower of rooms from where our parents are. I assume it’s because they both have king suites, and we don’t.

The walk to our room is silent. I’m sure Hawke can tell that I’m not at all happy about sharing a room with him, and thankfully, he doesn’t push his luck. It physically pained me to hand him the second key card. I may have tried to tug it back before I finally let him take it.

I swipe my card into the door, the light flashing green to let me in. Pushing the door open, I see our bags have already been dropped off.

Hawke steps around me, taking in the room.

“This is nice,” Hawke observes. We notice the crisp white bed linens, the large bathroom with a huge shower, and the balcony overlooking one of the resort pools and ocean. The best part of the room, in my humble opinion, is the giant bathtub placed strategically by the balcony door so you have a perfect view of the ocean while you relax in the bath.

Too bad I won’t be able to use it. Another reason I can be annoyed with my new roommate.

I sigh, taking a few more steps into the room and tossing my backpack onto the bed I’m claiming as mine. I take a few pictures of the room before we mess it up so I can post it to Instagram later. While this is a personal trip, I’ll obviously still be blogging about my experience and giving honest reviews to my loyal followers. I can’t travel and not tell them about it. Sure, it’s my job, but it’s also something I genuinely love doing.

“Alright, we need to set some ground rules,” I announce once I’ve captured what I want, making sure that Hawke isn’t visible in any of them.

Hawke turns to me, humor dancing in his eyes. “Oh, goody. I can’t wait to hear these. Lay them on me, Sunshine.”

“This is my bed.” I point to the bed with my bag on it. “That is yours. You stay on your bed. I don’t like people messing with my stuff.”
