He dragged his tongue into my opening and circled it. I arched. I was so sensitive after coming once, a small cry escaped into my hand. He returned to my clit, licking and twisting his tongue until I couldn’t take it anymore.
This was shit…shit… I released another cry.
“Let go, human. Let me hear your scream.” He spread my legs farther apart and nipped harder at my sensitivity.
My climax was wound inside me like a knot. Vaelor clamped his lips around my clit and sucked.
I screamed into my hand.
He nipped in satisfaction at my clit one final time before raising his head. He wiped his face and leaned over me. “There it is.”
He fell to the side next to me, his arms encircling me and pulling me close. I swiped my hair back from my face and stared at him in surprise. “Don’t you want to come too?”
He chuckled, his embrace around me tightening. “I came with you when I was possessing you. Besides, tonight, I wanted to focus on your pleasure.”
I kissed him, enjoying the feel of his lips against mine. “Next time we will focus on yours.”
He didn’t reply and my stomach clenched. I lay there with him, not willing to let the moment end, but a familiar fear lingered in the back of my mind.
“Vaelor,” I whispered. “Please don’t leave me.”
“I’m here now, Denara. Don’t be frightened.”
“Let me come with you. Let me finish this with you.”
He was quiet before finally answering, “I won’t leave without telling you.” He tenderly planted a kiss on my shoulder.
And even though it wasn’t the promise I wanted, it was enough for now. We lay there and stared up at the sky, counting shooting stars and pretending we had all the time in the world until slumber took me.
Twenty
Before I woke up the next morning, Vaelor drifted into my mind.
I know you don’t want me to leave you, but I must give you up. It’s the only way I might save you. I’m sorry, Denara. Be safe here with your family.
Vaelor. My thoughts refused to coalesce enough to form a coherent response, even though I fought for it.
His gentle touch ghosted over my cheek.
“Goodbye, Denara.”
I heard his steps and the flapping of wings, and my eyes flew open.
“Vaelor!”
I was inside my mother’s cabin, a warm blanket covering my body, my clothes carefully done up. Everything looked so normal.
Except he was gone. I felt it inside me.
Mother was cooking over the fire.
I jumped out of bed and rushed over to her. “Where did he go?” I demanded.
“I’m afraid I don’t know.”
“He left me. I told him I could help him, and he still left.” My arms trembled, my hands balled into fists, and an ache rose up my throat. Again. Nobody ever stayed. Not for me.
Mother straightened and wiped her palms on her skirt, observing me. “Maybe he wants to keep you safe.”
