When we reached the bottom of the stairs and saw them, I pushed a little closer to Knox. Two of the most attractive people I’d ever laid eyes on stood together on the marble floor. Considering Knox was gorgeous, and I’d seen Wes had a handsome face at least, I wondered if being unbelievably attractive was a requirement for joining their team.

“Well, hey stranger,” the stunning brunette woman with legs up to my ears crooned.

“Piper,” Knox said on a sigh. He released his grip on me and walked up to her, pulling her in for a hug. “It’s good to see you.”

She squeezed him back. “You too, Knox. I missed your scruffy mug.”

His attention turned to the other man with the short, brown hair and biceps almost as big as Knox’s pushing out the material of his light blue t-shirt.

“Marcus. Thank you for coming, brother.”

The two men folded together for a quick hug, ending with a tap on the back.

When he released his grip on Marcus, both sets of eyes drifted to me.

Piper lifted a meticulously groomed eyebrow. “You must be Lucia,” she stated, her red lips curving into a smile as she stared at me.

I swallowed, suddenly feeling small and vulnerable again without Knox at my side. Luckily, he hurried back over to me, slipping his arm around my waist.

“This is Lucia,” he answered for me since my words were trapped in my throat.

“Hi,” I finally managed to say.

“It’s so nice to meet you, Lucia,” Marcus said, stepping forward and extending a tanned hand. “Knox has had nothing but great things to say about you.”

“Yeah,” Piper chuckled. “You’ve gone and turned our pit bull into a chihuahua.”

Knox joined her in laughter with a shrug while I took Marcus’s hand and shook it.

“It’s not a lie,” Knox admitted. “But I’m still pit bull when it comes to protecting her. And that’s why I’m so grateful you both came.”

“We’re always here for you, Knox.” Marcus slapped him on the shoulder.

“You know we’ve got your back,” Piper added. “And we’ve got yours too.” Her emerald-green eyes locked onto mine as she smiled.

Even though they both still intimidated me, the warmth between the three of them started to ease my anxiety.

“I’m really sorry your ex did this,” Marcus said. “I can’t imagine what you’ve been through without your son.”

Piper’s eyes narrowed, and sheer determination tightened her perfectly proportioned face. “It’s total bullshit what that dick did. I can only imagine how painful this must have been for you. Just know that we will get him back. We won’t stop until he’s safe in your arms.”

I sighed at the comfort of her words. “Thank you. It’s been a nightmare,” I admitted.

“Well, it’s almost over,” Knox said. “These people here, and me, won’t stop until Luca is safe with you.”

Happiness at his words caused me to sigh and press my head into his shoulder.

Knox jutted his bearded chin at Marcus. “You want to kick back and settle in or go over the plan now.”

“Plan,” he said. “It starts tomorrow, so we need to get our shit together right away.”

“Awesome,” Knox said. “Let’s get Wes on the video chat and figure this shit out. We can go into the living room.”

Knox led me by the hand, with Piper and Marcus trailing behind. We settled onto the couch side-by-side while they flipped open a laptop. Wes’s face popped up.

“The band’s back together!” He grinned.

“And we’re ready to fucking rock.” Piper smiled. “Hey, Pretty Boy. Good to see your face.”
