“Well, you cool cats go have some fun fishing and hook me up on video chat when you catch one. I want to see.”

“Will do, Pretty Boy,” Knox responded.

Everyone said their goodbyes, then Piper slid her phone into her tight jeans pocket. “So, we going fishing or what?”

Knox nodded. “Yes. But can you two watch Luca for a few minutes while Lucia and I go... change into some clean clothes?”

The only one that didn’t grasp his meaning was Luca. Marcus and Piper each shot each other a look, and Piper answered, “Of course. Take your time.”

Knox grabbed me by the hand and pulled me to our bedroom. We didn’t even have the door closed before he pressed me up against the wall and covered my mouth with kisses.

“I just wanted a minute alone with you.”

His tongue pushed against mine, twisting and turning as he deepened our kiss. He was right. Since he’d rescued us, we hadn’t let Luca leave our side.

“I thought I was going to lose you,” he said between kisses. “It almost killed me.”

“I never lost hope.” I pulled back and looked into his passion-filled eyes. “Not for a second. Just like you knew your team would rescue you, so you held on, I knew you would come for me. Nothing, and no one, will ever stand between us again. Now take me to bed and show me how much you love me.”

He growled and swept me into his arms. Our clothes flew across the room as we tore them off, and when he buried himself in me, I clung to his back and fought the tears threatening to spill out. I’d never known this kind of love existed, and the way he felt inside me only strengthened our unbreakable connection. I was his, and he was mine, and nothing would tear us apart again.

We rode the wave of euphoria together, and he collapsed on top of me when we were done.

“That was way too quick,” he panted. “But I don’t want to keep everyone waiting. But tonight, when Luca goes to bed, I’m going to take my time with every inch of your body.”

He looked up, and the fire burning in his eyes ignited my insides.

I leaned up and kissed him. “It’s going to be a long evening waiting to get you back to this bed.”

“Then let’s get this show on the road so we can get some fish, get everyone drunk, put Luca to bed, and get back here.”

We laughed and got dressed quickly, then hurried back out to the porch.

Luca furrowed his brow when he saw us. “I thought you were changing?”

Knox and I both glanced down at our clothes, realizing we’d tossed back on the same ones.

“Uh, yeah. We changed our minds, little man. Fishing is dirty business, so why put on clean clothes, so we just get them dirty again.” Knox tapped the side of his head and made a stupid face. “Duh, right?”

“Yeah.” Luca smiled. “Duh.”

Piper and Marcus chuckled, and Marcus gave Knox a stealth thumbs up.

“We ready?” Piper asked.

“Yep.” Knox pointed to our truck. “Luca, Lucia, and I will take Harvey, and you two can follow behind. Poles are already in the truck.”

“You know,” I said, reaching out and touching Knox’s hand. “If it’s okay with you, I’m going to stay behind and get stuff ready for cooking dinner tonight. And...” I paused, still stunned I got to utter the words, “I’m going to call my family.”

Knox’s face lit up as he nodded. “Yeah. Of course. Yeah. Call them. I’m sure they are going to be thrilled to hear from you.”

At this point, they probably thought I was dead, and I didn’t want to leave them feeling that way even a second longer. Now that Knox had taken care of Victor, it was time to start living my life again.

He leaned over and kissed me on the cheek. “I love you.”

“I love you too.”

“Love you, Mom!” Luca jumped up and kissed my other cheek.
