A red sports car headed our way, and Piper tipped her head. “I have a better plan.”

She drew her gun and stepped into the middle of the street, pointing it at the driver. The car skidded to a stop as she held her ground.

My eyes widened as I took in the sleek, shiny lines of the expensive car. “Oh, hell yeah! I do get to ride in a Bond car!”

“Out! Now!” she commanded in Russian.

The driver opened the door, hands raised as he stepped aside.

Movement behind us caught our eye, and the five men appeared around the corner. Piper spun her gun and fired several shots, sending them ducking behind the stone building.

“I’ll drive, you shoot,” I said as I hurried over to the driver’s side door.

“What?” she argued as she ran beside me. “Hell no. I’m driving. I’m trained for escape and evasion techniques.”

“I can drive, Piper. Well. But I can’t shoot like you. If they follow us, it’s on you to get them off our tail.”

She grumbled but finally nodded her head, then slid across the hood and jumped in the other side. The men reappeared, and she popped off a few shots as she climbed inside.

“Go!” she shouted once we got in.

I reached for the shifter, my heart pounding with excitement as I revved up the powerful engine.

“You sure you know how to drive this thing?” She arched an eyebrow.

“Grand Theft Auto Five champion, baby. Twice. I can drive this beauty.”

“A video game?” Her eyes went big. “You mean to tell me you think you can handle this thing because of a fucking video game? This isn’t—”

I stepped on the gas and slammed her back into her seat.

“Watch and learn, baby. Watch and learn.”

With a face-splitting grin, I tore past the men jumping to their feet.

“Holy shit. We’re gonna die,” Piper said as she pulled out another gun.

CHAPTER SEVEN

Piper

“I’ve got you.” Wes weaved the car through the traffic as we sped away.

I gripped my seat. “I can’t believe I’ve made it through all the shit I’ve made it through in life, and I’m going to die because you think you can drive a sports car in a high-speed getaway based on your skills in a fucking video game.”

“Hey.” He shifted gears. “I was the five-time high point champion in the GTA V tournaments.”

“Still not the same as driving a real car, Wes.”

He looked over at me with that knee-buckling smile. “I’ve got skills you’ve never seen.”

A black SUV shot out in front of us at the cross-street. Wes slammed on the brakes, his arm flying across my chest as he pinned me to my seat with impressive strength while he skidded us to a stop. I panted and glanced down at his arm across my chest.

“You okay?” he asked.

My gaze slid to the hand wrapped around my breast. My stomach dropped, not unlike it had when we’d stopped the car. When my eyes lifted and met his ocean blues, my stomach flipped again.
