Remi didn’t like that at all. But this boy wasn’t his, so he couldn’t exactly make him open up. “I’ll leave you alone if you want me to,” he offered. “But I hate to see a baby boy looking so sad.”
The boy gave him a wary look, and then suddenly brightened. “You’re DaddyR!”
“Yep,” Remi agreed. “That’s me.” He knew he shouldn't have been so thrilled that BabyRoar recognized him from his profile, but he was. “My name’s Remi.”
“I’m Isaac,” the boy said hurriedly, then held up one finger to pause him. “Hang on one sec.”
Amused, Remi waited while Isaac called someone and brought his phone up to his ear.
“Tommy!” Isaac seemed to be buzzing with excitement. “Guess who I met? It’s DaddyR and he’s even hotter in person! You have to come out now.”
Remi couldn’t help but grin. Maybe Isaac would get his friend to join them after all… but if not, it was doing good things for his ego—and his dick—to know that Isaac thought he was hot. Isaac’s exuberance and innocent honesty were a potent combination.
There was a long pause and then Isaac went back to cajoling his friend. “No, listen. He’s super sweet. He heard me on the phone and came over to see if I needed anything. And you have to hear his voice.” Another pause. “Describe him? Um… Why are you laughing? No, listen. You’d really like him. OK. He’s taller than you, and he’s got really good hair. Like, it’s all puffy and swoopy.”
Remi tried not to laugh. His hair was swoopy? He supposed it was, with the part to the side so his brown hair swooped over his forehead. Isaac was beyond cute.
“Yeah, and he’s got the best eyes. They’re ooey-gooey chocolate brown. And he’s smiling at me right now like he thinks I’m insane, which I probably am, but it’s such a good smile. Yes, like a warm, cozy Daddy smile.” Another pause, then Isaac looked him up and down. “Yeah, he’s sexy ev-ry-where. God, he looks like he could pick you up and toss you around.”
Fuck, this boy was something else. Remi was already captivated by his enthusiasm. And it didn’t hurt hearing every thought going through the boy’s head about how sexy he was, even if he was maybe upselling him a bit. He’d always thought of his features as fairly average. .
He did need to set something straight though, at least if it was one of his supposed attributes. He held up his hand to get Isaac’s attention.
“Hang on,” he told his friend. “Yeah?”
“Since you seem to be selling me to your buddy, I don’t want to lead you into false advertising. I have a spinal injury that means I can’t lift anyone up.”
Isaac gave him a look that he couldn’t figure out. Not pity, certainly. More… assessing? His eyes zoomed over Remi’s body, but something else was going on in his mind.
The boy returned to his conversation. “I take that last one back. He has a spinal injury so he has weight lifting restrictions. Maybe you’d have to crawl into his lap,” he suggested with a glint in his eye, “but it would be soooooo worth it.”
Damn, the images this boy was putting in his head. Though he wasn’t picturing some nameless friend crawling on the floor toward him. He was thinking of Isaac.
“Yeah, he’s still really tall with these thick arms and a cuddly belly that you’d just love.”
Remi didn’t think anyone had ever painted him in such a flattering light. He was a bit overweight—hefty was a good word for it—and he spent so much time in the lab or prepping for classes that how he looked was usually the last thing on his mind. But somehow, to this enchanting boy, he was sexy. He almost didn’t care if his friend loved his belly so long as Isaac did.
There was a longer pause in the conversation, and Remi watched Isaac’s face change from excitement to shock, and then frustration. “Tommyyyyyyyy… I am mad at you! You’re a lying liar and I am never forgiving you.”
Isaac listened again. “Can’t you at least both come out here?” Another lengthy pause, that left Isaac pouting. “Fine. But I want to meet your Daddy first thing on Sunday afternoon. He better be a nice Daddy.” Isaac glared at the ground in front of him. “Yes, I’ll stay here,” he grumbled next. “Ha! Not likely.” Isaac listened again. “OK. Bye. No, I don’t love you right now. OK, I love you but you owe me. Yeah, bye.”
Isaac tossed his phone onto the table beside him and flopped back onto it himself.
“Want to talk about it?” Remi asked.
Isaac stared up at the ceiling again. “My stupid best friend planned this trip with me months ago. We were going to meet up here, have a weekend together, find him a Daddy, and then hang out in Portland together for the rest of the week.”
“And that didn’t work out?” Remi had already gotten the general gist of it, but he wanted to give Isaac the chance to talk it out. He took a few steps closer to the table. “Mind if I sit?”
Isaac waved a vague hand. “Go ahead. And yeah. He’s apparently been seeing this guy for three weeks, but he didn’t tell me because he’s a manipulative little… I don’t know what.”
Since Isaac had his eyes closed, Remi let himself smile while he settled onto the picnic table, one knee bent in front of him so he could face the boy and his other foot on the bench beside Isaac’s. His back protested the movements, still stiff from the drive out here. It hurt more days than not.
He ignored all of that, though. Isaac was too adorable, throwing a temper tantrum when the worst word out of his mouth was stupid. It made Remi want to gather the prickly ball of frustration in his arms and either soothe him or spank him until everything was better. He could only hope that he got that chance.
“That sounds frustrating,” he offered instead. “Why was he manipulating you?”
Isaac let out a puff of air. “He wants me to find my own Daddy.”
