My jaw locks.

She pulls back slightly.
Those eyes look up at me.

“This sounded very Ghost,” she whispers.

I touch the blood beneath her lip with my thumb, careful enough that my hand barely makes contact.
“This is Xavier.”
Because Ghost wants to hold her.
Xavier wants names.
And I am suddenly very comfortable being both.
One of my men approaches.
“Site is secure.”
I don't look away from her.
“How many?”
“Three detained. One injured. We’re sweeping again.”
“Phones, drives, paper, cameras. Everything comes to me.”
“Yes, sir.”
“Nothing uploads to Blackwell central.”
His hesitation is tiny.
I see it.
“Nothing,” I repeat.
“Understood.”
Sabine notices.
Naturally she does.
“You're hiding me.”
