“Come on, Adam. You have to give us something. Who took the order?”

“I don’t know. Really. I’ve only been there a couple months. I work in the back.” He locked his gaze on Trey.

Amy started to think he might be telling the truth, but she stayed the course. “Guys, he won’t talk. I say we take him downtown and book him.”

Adam struggled, jumping up.

“Sit down.” Ryan braced the kid’s shoulders and with a little pressure, he sat back down.

“Okay, I suspected.”

“What did you suspect, Adam?” Trey’s voice was gentle but commanding.

“I might have known about the extra spice, but I didn’t add it. I swear.” Sweat and snot poured down his face.

Amy almost felt sorry for the kid. Almost. “Who supplies the extra spice?”

“It’s the old guy.”

“Quinten Gardiner?” Amy bounced on the balls of her feet, primed for action.

“No, not the really old guy, but the other old guy. He’s his age.” He pointed to Trey.

“Stephen.” His name slipped from her lips. She knew it.

“I don’t know his name.”

Ryan stepped up and leaned over to talk right next to Adam’s ear. “One question. Are you going to help us or not?”

Chapter 16

Amy lounged on his couch, Stinky sprawled out on her lap. Her fingers ran over his back in long, methodical strokes. Lucky bastard.

Ryan took Adam down to the station to charge him. He called a few minutes ago to tell them the kid’s parents came, and he lawyered up.

Amy dropped her head to the side and stretched. “Do you think Adam will agree to go into protective custody and give up Stephen for a reduced sentence?”

“Knowing what a self-absorbed weasel he is––no doubt he’ll take the out.” Trey moved a pillow and sat beside her.

She swung a leg up and over his knee. Stinky grumbled about his lack of worship and got down.

“I hope we can get the Gardiners on more than a minor drug charge.”

He pulled her other leg up and placed it on his lap. She purred when he ran his hand along her leg from ankle to thigh and back. The hairs on his arm danced at the sound.

She stretched like a cat. The inch of skin that flashed at her belly caused a hum in the back of his throat. Those beautiful blue eyes locked on his. “It’s been a long day.”

“Long week, and it’s only Wednesday.” He continued to stroke her calf. Never wanting to stop.

“I have to work tomorrow.” She frowned.

“You should go to bed then.” He didn’t want her to go, but he’d be damned if he’d be the reason she got hurt at work.

“I should, but…” She bit her lip.

“But.” She was killing him.

“The bed you ordered me.” She dropped her gaze. Trey didn’t miss her half smile.
