His intense gaze melted her insides like a chocolate lava cake.

“I’ll be waiting.”

So would she. She put an extra sway in her hips as she crossed to him, then stopped close enough to feel the heat coming off his skin. His fresh showered scent tickled her nose.

Damn it, now she had a new item on her bucket list. Shower with Trey. A nice hot, steamy shower. She licked her lips.

“You’re going to be late,” he whispered as his hand skated up her arm.

She blinked. “Uh, no. I can’t.”

“But you want to.”

That damn smoldering look, it would be her undoing.

She stepped back. It took way too much willpower, but she did it. “Raincheck.”

“Any time.”

Tearing her gaze from the man who was sex on a stick, she headed to the stairs. It was girls night, and no matter how hot he was, she couldn’t blow off the ladies for Trey.

She glanced back one last time. But that didn’t mean she couldn’t think about him. Because she totally would.

And did, the entire drive across town.

The doors of Fire Hearth were two beautiful carved masterpieces. The inside was warm and inviting. Amy spotted the girls right away. Mira jumped up and waved. The light glinted off her huge engagement ring. “Over here.”

As she moved closer, the gals all had drinks in front of them and no books. Yup, the typical book club. She slipped into the chair next to Liz and snagged an empty chair for Candi. “My academy friend will be here soon.”

“Yay, more friends.” Mira clapped. “What do we talk about first, Liz’s wedding plans, Kate’s latest hookup, or Tre-Amy?”

Oh, hell no, Amy wasn’t going to be the main attraction tonight.

She turned to Lorna. “You’re back. How was your trip?”

“Wonderful. The weather was great, the views were beautiful, and the kids had fun. We plan on going back next year.” Lorna’s hands gestured as she spoke.

“I can’t believe you came to book club the night you got back.” Vacations always exhausted Amy. She needed a vacation after every trip.

“Trust me, after two weeks with the kids, I was ready to escape for some girl time.”

The sparkle on Lorna’s finger caught Amy’s attention. Obviously, she wasn’t the only one. Mira snatched Lorna’s hand and sized up the ring.

“Holy crap, you got engaged! It’s about time.” Mira held out Lorna’s hand. Vanna White couldn’t show off the ring any better.

Lorna’s cheeks turned a soft pink. “It’s worse. We got married.”

“What?” Mira screamed and pulled Lorna into a hug. The two rocked then Mira opened her arms and waved the other in. Group hugs followed.

“I hope he takes you on a decent honeymoon. A trip with four kids is not my idea of romance.” Kate hugged Lorna one more time before picking up her drink.

“We’re going on a Caribbean cruise this fall. No kids.”

“Good man,” Kate said then sat back down. “We need to get Amy a drink so we can toast.”

“Wait, does Joy know?” Panic flashed on Liz’s face. Joy Whittier was Liz’s aunt and CJ and Harrison’s mother. And even Amy knew you didn’t cross the matriarch of the Whittier family. She had more connections than a mob boss and could be twice as vicious if someone crossed her.

“Now. She wasn’t happy that we didn’t tell anyone.”
