“Actually…” Sean lowered his eyes and scratched his cheek. “That’s what I wanted to show

you.”

“You want to play for me? Right now?”

Spending long winter nights by the fire while Sean strummed the guitar or lazy, summer

afternoons by the lake, sharing a picnic and songs, sounded like a dream come true. But at the

moment, Avi was hard as fuck and wasn’t sure how much longer he could behave himself.

This clearly means a lot to him.

Sean peered up at him from beneath his lashes. “Is that okay?”

Avi smiled. “It’s wonderful. I’d be honored.”

“I hope so.” Sean’s leg jiggled. “Because…well, the song I want to play you is extra special.”

Sean gestured to the chair and Avi took a seat. Sean clambered onto the bed then grabbed the

instrument, crossing his legs and wiggling on his butt until he seemed to get into the right position.

“Is this one you wrote?” Avi noted that Sean wouldn’t meet his gaze.

“Yeah. I wrote it after I bought the guitar. I…I wanted you to know how serious I am about you

being my Alpha, that it’s not a crush.” Sean raised his eyes. “I want you to know how much I love

you.”

Avi sucked in a sharp breath. My brave swan, indeed. He might have held back, but Sean

hadn’t. He opened his mouth to speak, but Sean cut him off.

“Let me sing this before I lose my nerve, okay?”

Avi relaxed in the chair with a smile, his heart fluttering in anticipation of hearing Sean’s gift to

him. “Please. I can’t wait.”

Sean inhaled then dragged the pick across the six strings, gradually picking up a rhythm as he

played an opening chord progression. The first strains of Sean’s melodic voice rang out, and right as

Avi was losing himself in the sound of his mate’s song, the lyrics began to register.

Avi crossed his legs and clasped his hands together, his throat tightening as a host of emotions

assailed him. Listening to the raw beauty of Sean’s words had awoken something inside him. When

he’d been younger, he’d ached to experience the intensity of a fated mate relationship. Then, as the

years had passed, he’d assumed he’d never know what it meant to hold his omega close, to be

together as if they were one.

The final strums of the tune trailed off, Sean’s lovely tenor complementing the notes perfectly.
