whatever it was, it was bad.
“Hurry! Get inside and lock the door!”
Avi gasped then did exactly as Sean said. He snapped the deadbolt into place then grabbed
Sean’s upper arms.
“What is it, honey? Did you hear from Finn or the herd?”
Sean almost swallowed his tongue. “W-what?” He began to tremble. “Why did you ask that?
Are they here? I won’t let them get inside!”
He twisted free from Avi’s grasp then raced through the house, running in circles, flapping his
arms wildly while yelling ‘peck their eyes out!’ over and over. Then he rushed back to the main area
and hopped from chair to sofa to coffee table then leaped off that before launching himself at the
dining room table. Once he was perched atop it, he began screeching with all his might, his lungs
burning and throat hurting with the effort.
He’d never been so damn mad.
A voice cut through the rage he couldn’t hold back, a sound that reminded him of safety and
home.
“Sean, honey, it’s Avi. It’s me, your mate, your Alpha.” Avi framed his face between his palms
and held his head still as he stared into his eyes. “Focus, Sean. You’re safe. I won’t let anyone harm
you or our egg.”
Egg? That got his attention.
“What?” He blinked several times, trying to bring his attention back to the present, back to his
mate. “What do you mean, egg?”
Somehow, Avi had already gotten him off the table and had his arm around his shoulders and
was guiding him back to the sofa. Avi took a seat then dragged Sean down with him. He tucked Sean’s
head beneath his chin, then encouraged him to drape his legs across his lap. Then he embraced Sean’s
thighs with one arm and cradled his shoulders with the other.
“That’s it, honey. Everything’s fine, you’re safe, our egg is safe.”
Oh gods. It was time for him to nest.
Then, in the next breath, all his anger and fear drained from his body and was replaced with an
elation he’d never known existed.
I’m growing an egg inside me.
