He’s not putting the moves on you, is he?”

Sean’s jaw dropped open. “You don’t trust me?” His lip began to tremble, and he thought he

might burst into big, ugly tears at any second.

After gently removing the slushie from Sean’s hand then setting it on the table, Avi scooted his

chair closer and wrapped an arm around Sean’s shoulders.

“I’m sorry, honey. I don’t know what came over me. Of course, I trust you. But I have to

confess, this Alpha state of being is jarring sometimes. I’ve never experienced it before, and it’s

become even more intense now that you’re carrying my egg.” Avi gave him a squeeze then pressed a

kiss to his head. “I love you more than anything.” Avi smiled at him. “Forgive me?”

Sean sniffed. He had to admit, his carrying-an-egg state of being had caught him off guard too.

Half the time, he wanted to sob like an infant and the other half he was so happy, he couldn’t stop

himself from giggling like a loon. He frowned. I didn’t leave room for the part where I want to

scratch people’s faces off if they come near the nest.

He was a mess.

“I’ll always forgive you, Avi. You’re my mate and I love you with all my heart. I suppose I

wasn’t expecting all this either.”

Avi gave him another squeeze. “But we have each other to lean on so we can survive whatever

comes our way, right?”

Sean smiled up at him. “Right.”

Avi glanced over his shoulder. “Uh-oh. Your slushie is melting and that bee looks like he wants

some.”

Sean tracked Avi’s gaze. He wasn’t kidding. “Shoo, bee. Go drain some flowers dry. This one’s

mine.”

He waved off the tiny slushie-stealer then grabbed his drink. After taking a few long pulls on

the straw, he was rewarded with brain freeze but had perked up from the sugar rush. It turned out the

break and the slushie was exactly what he’d needed.

“I’m feeling better now, Avi. I’m going to head down that aisle where Kellan and Vic went.”

“Sounds good. I’ll catch up with you in a sec. I think I’ll grab a drink too.”

“Why didn’t you get one the same time as my slushie? Now you’ll have to wait in that line all

over again.”
