He shook his head as he swung the door open. “No idea but when I find out assess are gonna get kicked.”

She had no doubt assess would fry, especially as Alex now had his 9mm in his hand. She followed him, watching as Gunner stepped through the door as a tall, gorgeous Greek god of a man stepped onto the doorstep with his hands in the pockets of his impeccably cut suit.

Jesus. If she weren’t so busy mooning over Alex, she would be completely in a lust induced haze at the sight of the hunk in his custom designer suit that probably cost thousands and the watch on his left wrist that would keep her in cars for a good ten years. The two men stared at each other for a few seconds each sizing the other up. The tension almost palpable until Alex moved quickly forward.

“How the fuck are you, Hunter my man?” Alex asked as he smiled and shook the outstretched hand, slapping the man on the back.

Evelyn let out a breath she hadn’t known she was holding and felt the tension leave her. The two men pulled back and Evelyn felt the eyes of the Greek god—now known as Hunter—on her as Alex turned and held out his arm. She moved in close, her own arm going to Alex’s back as his arm moved around her shoulder.

“Hunter, this is Evelyn Garcia. Evelyn, this is Hunter McKenzie. He’s a very good friend to Eidolon.

“Miss Garcia, it is a pleasure to meet you.” Hunter stepped forward offering his hand to Evelyn.

“Nice to meet you too,” she responded noting his American accent.

“Please come in. I have offered Eidolon the use of my home here. I owe them a debt that I can never repay so I help when I can.”

From his words, Evelyn knew there was an interesting story there.

“You don’t owe us a damn thing.” Alex was vehement in his response.

She followed as they moved through the reception hall which was all white marble floors and decorative balustrades leading up the double stairs to a mezzanine that went both left and right to more rooms. Distracted by the house and the new turn of events she gasped when a little boy no older than three came running around the corner. His dark hair and eyes were the image of Hunter. He was giggling but came to a sudden stop when he saw the new arrivals.

Hunter bent and lifted the boy into his arms as the child smiled. The boy looked at her before ducking his head into his father’s neck and peering at her shyly.

“Say hello to Miss Garcia, Theo,” Hunter said to the boy in a gentle tone that made her ovaries explode.

“Hello, Miss Gar…. Garc.”

“Call me Evelyn.”

“Hello, Miss Evelyn,” he said shyly.

She grinned and turned to look at Alex who was regarding her with a soft look.

“Hey, Theo, it is very nice to meet you.” Her heart turned to absolute mush over the adorable child.

Just then a stunning woman with long, dark, almost black hair with a blue streak in the front came running around the corner. She was beautiful—tall, slim, and striking with a pretty face and deep dark eyes. She also had a baby on her hip, this one a little girl with a pink denim jacket and pink animal print leggings. The woman was dressed in skinny black jeans, faux leopard skin ballet flats, and a cream shirt with a leopard print belt. She epitomised class but it was so understated and so approachable that Evelyn felt an almost instant liking for the woman.

“Alex.” A radiant smile split her gorgeous face as she moved to Alex with her arm outstretched to hug him while holding the baby close.

“Good to see you, Lex. You’re looking gorgeous as ever.”

Evelyn felt a twinge of jealousy at his words before she pushed it down.

“You too, and who is the beautiful lady?”

“Lex, this is Evelyn Garcia. Evelyn, this is Lexi McKenzie.” Alex pulled her tighter to his side. “And this adorable little one is Jasmine.” Alex put his hand out so the baby could grab his finger which was immediately covered in baby drool, but it didn’t seem to faze Alex. Evelyn saw Lexi look from Alex to her and back again.

“Oh my God, it’s you. You’re the one. The one he lost.” Getting more excited by the second, Lexi pulled Evelyn in for a hug.

“Um—” Evelyn started, but Lexi kept right on talking.

“No don’t say it. You don’t have to. Believe me, I know true love when I see it and I can see it in you two.”

“You’ll have to excuse my wife, she gets rather excited about true love and wants everyone to be in love,” Hunter said indulgently as he looked adoringly at his wife.

She moved to him and rested against his shoulder as he kissed her temple. “I just want everyone to be as happy as we are.”

“I know you do, Blue.”

There was so much love and tenderness in his voice that Evelyn suddenly felt as if they were intruding.

“Right, take the kids and get packed. We’re going sailing for a few days so these guys can do what they do in peace.” He grinned at Lexi’s excited squeal.

She gave her and Alex a wave and ushered Theo away with Jasmine still on her hip.

Hunter turned to them, a serious look on his face. “I have no clue what the threat is but take all the time you need. My home is your home. Evelyn, I wish you well and hope to see you next time Alex comes to the US.” With that he shook Alex’s hand and then hers and was gone.

Evelyn turned and looked up at Alex her mind a whir from the last five minutes. “Well, that created more questions than it answered but I have a feeling that story had a happy ending.”

Alex nodded as he looked in the direction they had just gone. “Yes, it did but it had a very hairy start and for a while it could have ended in absolute heartbreak. It’s a story for another time though. We need to go see the guys and I need to kick Gunner’s ass for the dramatics.”

With that they moved towards the stairs and the sounds of laughter from Liam, Blake, Reid, and Gunner.
