While I had money, I didn’t live above my means, and the accident and the subsequent alterations to the house and the gadgets had taken a significant chunk of my savings and inheritance.
Cody insisted I needed to become more mainstream and get out with the public more to showcase my art. I was intrigued by the idea but worried about being typecast as that “gay, blind sculptor” as opposed to being seen for my work. I knew how labels worked.
He’d scoffed; saying whatever the public wanted to believe didn’t denigrate my talent. That man had more faith in me than I had.
“He’s right. Your work is stunning and unique and deserves the best attention it can get.” Her voice shifted into something sly. “So, tell me. Did you have a good weekend?”
There was a definite emphasis on the word “good.”
I nodded, trying to keep the smile from my face at the thought of how good it had been. “Yes. It was memorable.” I stopped, trying to decide how much to tell her about Cody and I being an item now. We’d kept it quiet from everyone but I’d guessed she knew something was up. If I could see, I was sure it would have been written all over her face, since I heard it reflected in her voice.
“Uh-huh.” Her warm hands clasped mine. “Anything you want to tell me? If you were a woman, I’d tell you that you look radiant.” She chuckled as I made a disparaging sound. “You look so damn happy. Is everything good?”
My heart beat a little faster at the knowledge that yes, everything was good. More than good.
“You’re a little harpy, you know that? You’re fishing.”
She giggled and the air changed around me as she swept around the studio, the fabric of her dress making soft, swishy sounds.
“I might be. Or you could put me out of my misery and tell me what’s put that goofy look on your face. Would it be a certain man called Cody Fisher?”
I couldn’t help the grin that split my face and she squealed and stopped her swishing.
“Oh my God, it is. Have you two stopped being idiots and decided that the only way forward is together? Like in, together, together?”
I nodded, no doubt beaming. “Yeah, it seems we’re in a relationship now. He stayed over this weekend, and we, you know”—my face heated up and I flapped a hand—“talked.”
“Ohhh,” she drawled. “You talked, huh? How much ‘talking’ did you do? Was it a deep, in-depth conversation, with lots of up close and personal?”
I laughed. “Not telling you anything about our conversation. Suffice it to say we managed to figure out what we wanted.”
Suzanne moved in for a hug and I lost my breath as she nearly broke a rib. “I’m so pleased the two of you came to your senses and saw exactly what you mean to each other. You deserve each other, Nate.”
We did. I was going to make sure of it.
We walked up into the house, and I demonstrated more of my Braille reading techniques. I was slowly mastering the simple alphabet and words. I couldn’t read as much or as fast as I wanted, but I was getting by. I tended to buy audiobooks.
She left a couple of hours later, giving me a big kiss. “I’ll have you and Cody over for dinner one night at my place. I’ll call you. You’ve got a birthday coming up on the twenty-eighth, haven’t you? We need to do something to celebrate.”
She gave me another fierce hug. “You two belong together. I’m so glad you finally see each other for what you are. I think you’ve always been soulmates.”
Apparently. And despite, or maybe because of, the accident, everything bad that had happened turned good.
I had Cody back in my life the way it always had been meant to be.

The week that followed was as athletic, adrenaline-inducing and torturing (in the best way) as the weekend had been. It seemed that Cody and I were making up for twelve years of being apart as lovers.
I wasn’t complaining.
One of the best things about the week had been sharing our latest medical results and both having been given the all clear. With nothing between us, the sex was even more intense, if that was at all possible.
An hour ago, I’d walked into his beach house and been manhandled at the door. Cody had thrust his tongue halfway down my throat as he walked me backward to the sofa. It took mere seconds before I was lying flat, my trousers around my ankles while Cody straddled my body. Somehow, he’d gotten naked while I still had my shirt on.
My heated skin was all about the naked man on top of me whose hands were running down my flanks while his ass ghosted against my cock. My arms were pinioned to my sides by his strong legs, curtailing my mobility. The heady scent of his cock, frustratingly not close enough to touch with my lips, caused my mouth to water with the anticipation of getting it near enough to swallow down.
“Come on,” I wheedled. “No fair. For God’s sake, bring that cock here so I can taste you.”
