He shuffled closer, and I opened my mouth. Instead of the velvety smooth skin of his erection, I found something sweet and wet being pushed into my mouth. Strawberries. I knew I’d smelled fruit. I closed my mouth around the juiciness of one large piece, chewing down on it, moaning a few seconds later when his mouth found mine.

The remains of the strawberry mixed with the taste of Cody was intoxicating. He placed another piece between my teeth, except this time it was his to swallow. I couldn’t say how many times we devoured the sweet fruit, or each other. The sensation that stayed with me was Cody’s sweating, lithe body, slick and smooth, hands rough when they touched me in places I ached to have him fill even more.

My brain short-circuited, and when he finally whispered to me that he was ready, I could only mumble in dazed obedience. When he lifted himself up, his hands on my shoulders, and lowered himself onto my hardened and aching cock, I wondered dimly whether this was what heaven would one day be for me.

To have the man I loved riding my cock with such passion and fervor, his pants and sighs a symphony to my senses. My own moans and entreaties tantamount to the clash of heavenly cymbals that made a love serenade, an orchestral movement in the sunshine; two men joined in that most intimate of acts, the soft whispers and touches against heated flesh that made the world dazzling and stupendous.

Being inside Cody was a climactic event that made me shudder. I wanted nothing more from this life. Not even my sight. And when I exploded inside him with a surge of lust and desire, knowing my come was flooding his most secret places, I made him mine in a way no one could ever question. I knew I’d found my heaven on earth.

I smelled and felt Cody’s orgasm as he jetted over me, coating me with his come and mashing his mouth against mine in a heady cocktail of strawberries and hope.

“Happy birthday, baby,” he whispered and I smiled.

Lying together afterward, murmuring endearments and touching each other as if scared we’d miss something, my heart swelled with the rightness of it all.

“We’d better get ready,” I murmured in post coital bliss. “The guys will be waiting for us and we don’t want to be late.” In a way, I was sorry we’d made plans for dinner.

Cody caressed my chest softly. “Yeah, I know. Just give me a minute to savor this moment. Then we’ll shower and dress up.”

Dinner tonight was with Suzanne, Blu and Dev. It was a birthday celebration and, yeah, once the afterglow subsided, I was looking forward to being with everyone. I was also curious about Blu and Dev. I knew they’d hooked up, but according to Suzanne, it had become more than that.

The restaurant was one of my favorites, and I had been there before the accident. Adagios served up delicious Italian fare. In previous visits, I’d enjoyed the décor: red and white old Italian kitchen look, and the smooth Italian music, most notably Sinatra, that filtered from corner speakers. It was just enough to be background music. I hated places where you walked in and the music choice blared out, making conversation difficult.

From the sounds and smell of it, nothing had changed. I was thankful for that. It was good that some things were just as I remembered them.

Cody nudged me as we walked into the restaurant, my hand in the crook of his arm. “Will you look at those two?” he whispered to me after we’d announced ourselves and were shown to our table. “Blu and Dev are all over each other. I never thought I’d see Dev look at a guy that way. All doe-eyed and dorky.” He stifled a laugh, which came out like a snort. “He’s even worn his best shirt. The blue one that he always said brings out the color of his eyes.”

I chuckled. “Suzanne tells me you look at me the same way. Has she been lying to the blind man all these months?”

“I don’t look at you like that,” Cody said, sounding flustered. “She’s laying it on a bit thick.”

I squeezed his arm. “And who was it agonized over whether to wear the green shirt or the red one? I seem to recall a certain someone bemoaning the fact he couldn’t decide which one to wear with his new jeans.”

My man wasn’t a fashionista by any stretch of the imagination, but tonight he’d wanted to do me proud. I’d been touched, told him he looked good in anything he wore, which led to a kiss, which led to a deeper one, which led to…well, you get the idea. Luckily we hadn’t been too late to my own birthday celebration.

“Turn it all around on me, why don’tcha?” Cody said indignantly.

I grinned.

There was a cheer as we neared the table.

“’Bout time,” Dev shouted, and whistled, a shrill sound that made my ears hurt. “What have you two been doing? I always thought the birthday boy should be here before his guests. You’re lucky we saved you both a seat.”

Suzanne joined in, her voice teasing. “You do both look a little flustered. My imagination is working overtime.”

I laughed at the good-natured banter. “Sorry, guys. We got a bit delayed.”

“Yeah, it takes time to look this good, you Philistine,” Cody retorted. “I mean, look at my guy.” A chair was pulled out and he gently pressed down on my shoulder to sit. “He’s the sexiest man here. We should have stayed home and partied together, if you know what I mean, not come here to be with you.”

I sat and laid my cane flat on the floor, beneath the table. It was a never-ending struggle to find somewhere to place it where no one would trip over it, and it wouldn’t keep falling down or get kicked to hell and gone so I couldn’t find it.

“You look good, Nate. Really great.” Blu’s soft voice was on my left and I turned my head to him. “Being a couple suits you both.”

“I’ve heard similar stories about you and Dev,” I teased, relaxing into my chair. I laid my hands on the table, checking what was in front of me.

It was the usual arrangement of placemat, cutlery and a crisp napkin.

On my right, another chair scraped the floor. My boyfriend sat next to me and placed a hand on mine. “You’re all looking well. Suzanne, may I say that red dress looks stunning on you.”
