Chapter Eighteen
“Seriously?” Franky asked. “Water? That’s it?”
The entire ratings thing gave me a nervous stomach, and I’d spent most of the morning feeling queasy. Until everything settled down, drinking seemed like a bad idea. “I just don’t feel like drinking.”
“Suits me.”
I leaned over the edge of the bar. “I’m glad he decided to stay with her.”
“After tossing watermelons at them, I’m not surprised. That was classic, Lou.”
I grinned. “It’ll look good on the show.”
“You’ll look like a crazy woman when they air it.”
“They got it from all angles, I made sure of that,” I said. “Hopefully it’ll cause the ratings to go up. If they edit it properly, it should.”
“No arguments here. Nothing beats a crazy bitch tossing fruit out of the second story window.”
“They can show me hanging out the window with a watermelon in my hands on a commercial teaser for the next show. I think I might have called her a whore, I don’t remember.”
“Classic. So, what now? What’s next?”
“I’m hungry. Can I get some cheeses sticks? And a pizza?”
His eyebrows raised. “Seriously?”
“Yeah, I’m starving.”
“Cooks don’t get here for another hour.”
“That’s okay.”
“I’ll add it to your tab,” he said with a laugh.
I pulled a $100 bill from my purse and waved it in the air proudly. “Here.”
“Rob a bank?”
“No. I got a little bonus for my great ideas.”
He punched my food order into the keypad and then turned to face me. “Speaking of your great ideas, I’m pretty pleased with how this last portion of the show unfolded.”
“Yeah,” I said. “Me, too.”
“I’m proud of you. Seriously. Making the guy get with other women? Nothing says I’m not interested more than that.”
“I’m not interested.”
He reached over the bar, brushed my hair behind my ear, and grinned. “It shows. I like it.”
As he pulled his hand away, a chill ran through me. Goosebumps rose on my biceps. I shuddered and then met his gaze.
My mouth curled into a smile. “I like you.”
“I like you, too.”
“I want to sleep at your house again. Soon.”
