“Don’t judge me. Your daddy bought the house. Somebody has to furnish it.” Her smile came before she could stop it. Your daddy. Lotus picked up her phone. Not a word from him since he’d left hours ago.
“Stubborn ass.” The baby moved again. “And don’t be in there defending him.” Her thumb hovered over the keyboard.
Lotus: I found a couch.
The three little dots appeared almost immediately, and her heart sped up anxiously.
Eazy: You already got a couch.
Her eyes darted to her couch across the room. It didn’t fit the house anymore. The apartment was hers. This was going to be theirs, and she wanted it to feel like that.
Lotus: That’s not MY couch.
Eazy: You sitting on the floor.
Lotus glanced down at herself Indian style and rolled her eyes. Smart ass.
Lotus: I’m unpacking.
Eazy: You’ve been ‘unpacking’ for the last two hours.
Eyes narrowing, she typed quickly.
Lotus: How do you know?
Eazy: Guard said you ain’t opened the front door since I left.
Lotus: So you’re getting reports now?
Eazy: On you and my baby? Every damn one.
Lotus bit the inside of her cheek and half smiled. She typed I miss you, stared at it, deleted it, then typed something else.
Lotus: I found bar stools too. I don’t like those in the kitchen.
Eazy: Congratulations.
Lotus’s lips parted. Oh, he was being an asshole on purpose. One thing about Eazy, when he got in his feelings, he could behave like a child.
Lotus:
Eazy: What?
Lotus: Nothing.
This time, the dots took longer. Like he was typing and retyping some shit too before he finally settled on what to say.
Eazy: Go take your bath and get in bed, Lotus.
She stared at the message. Damn him. Of course, he knew she hadn’t rested since he left. She’d been moving around too much today. Although he irritated her like no other, Eazy simultaneously made her love him even more. Tossing the phone aside, she leaned back on both hands and looked down at her belly.
“I can’t stand your daddy.”
A tiny flutter answered her, and Lotus gasped.
“Oh, you definitely defending him now. I see how it is, son.” She laughed and reached up to stroke him.
Deciding on a late-night snack, she let the music continue to play because she was in fact lonely and needed some noise to drown out all the silence. Jewel FaceTimed her while she was in the kitchen slicing an apple with strawberries, and kiwi. He was at home with the girls since Rhema was working late. She was trying to get all her nursing hours in, and he supported it. Lotus fell over laughing when she saw the straw hat on his head with a pink daisy attached to one side.
