He climbed down off his seat at the counter and ran at me as fast as his little legs could go. When he slammed into me I picked him up and threw him in the air.

“Careful, Tank! You don’t want to knock your big brother over now do you?” dad said as he got up and walked towards us ruffling Brock’s hair.

I chuckled as I put Brock down.

“Where is everybody else?”

“Trev, isn’t here yet. I think he got stuck on gate duty because one of the other prospects is running late, but he’ll be here soon. Beth, Cassie, and Adam are up in their rooms doing some homework. Rip, Sammie and Bails are in the playroom. Ashton is attached to Liz.”

Liz turns around and I see that Ashton is indeed in one of those wrap thingies that people wear to carry babies.

“Hi, Caleb. How are you doing?”

“Hey Liz. I’m doing alright.”

I walk over and give her an awkward hug to avoid squishing my newest baby brother.

“So are you guys done now with the kids? Or are we just going to go for a Missy and Bulldog situation? Like are we trying to outdo them? I mean shit dad, I could be the father of all these kids.”

“Yeah, well I am going to keep having babies as long as she’ll let me. I mean fuck look at them we make some cute ones. But enough of giving me a fucking hard time, I want to talk about what I saw this morning.”

I look up at him and give him a questioning look before I say, “What did you see this morning?”

“Well I was actually looking for you, I guess it was more of this afternoon because you weren’t at your damn job when I got there. But I was walking to your room when the door opened and low and behold a short little woman popped out of it. She was wearing what I would assume was your shirt because I don’t think girls nowadays wear giant ass t-shirts for dresses. Do they babe?”

“Hey! Don’t look at her for fucking help trying to bust my balls. It’s just a girl I met up with last night.” I refrain from saying anything else because Brock is back at his chair by the counter observing and listening to everything that is being said.

“Come on, Caleb. What’s going on? You never let a woman stay in your room overnight. I’ve also heard this isn’t the first time this girl has been there. So is she someone special?”

“No, she’s just someone I met through Peyton and Parker. We’ve just been hooking up. Don’t worry about it.”

Before he can say anything else the door opens again and we hear Trevor yell through the house. I’m thinking about everything he said and who the hell is monitoring who comes and goes from my room and when. I mean why the hell is who I stick my dick in anyone else’s business. Everyone seems to be so obsessed with it. I’m thankful that after Trevor gets there the topic changes to how everything is going with prospecting and we all sit down for dinner.

Dinner was amazing, Liz followed it with desert and I have know fucking idea how in the hell she has the time to make the full dinner and desert with all the kids she has at home, plus fucking Trevor who is still living at home at seventeen probably eating them out of house and home.

“Well I think I’m gonna head home.” I say as I make my way to the door.

“I’ll walk out with you.” Dad says.

Before we get to the door we hear a very loud high pitched squeal.

“WAIT!! I come too, daddy.” My sweet three year old sister, Sammy says as she launches herself at my dad. He chuckles before he bends down and picks her up, placing her on his hip as he walks barefoot out of the house.

“ You actually heading home or back to the clubhouse for the night? I haven’t seen your bike at your house much lately. I know you’re still getting everything set up and together, but I for sure thought you’d be spending more time there than your room at the clubhouse. Then some nights I don’t even see your bike out in front of the club. Are you going to tell me what’s going on?”

I shake my head and look at my dad.

“Why does there have to be something going on? I don’t know why everyone is trying to make something out of nothing.”

“Caleb, son, I know you. You keep a lot of shit close to the chest, but you can talk to me. I hate hearing shit about my kids from gossip around the club. I’ve heard you’ve had a girl that’s been around for the past few months. What’s going on with that? That’s not like you. You should bring her over sometime. I’d love to get to know her. I want you to be happy Caleb. You deserve to be happy and you deserve a woman that cares and loves you.”

The word love sends my head reeling. I feel like my heart is going to beat out of my chest. I don’t think there is any love there, all we have is some nice fucking, okay excellent fucking, but still. We do talk and I have learned a lot about Rose, probably more than I have about most women. But you can tell we both keep a lot of shit to ourselves. We’ve never really talked about where this thing is going or if it is even a thing. I try to calm my breathing down.

“Listen dad, I’m young, I still have a shitload of time before I want to settle down. I’m having fun. Just because everyone has seen one chick the past few months, doesn’t mean there hasn’t been anyone else I’ve been hooking up with. Sure Rose is fun, but what we have it’s not serious. I don’t want to be serious, there are far too many women out there that enjoy my company.”

He gives me kind of a sad smile and I look at Sammy smiling up at me as her head is resting on dad’s shoulder.

“Caleb, you know I used to feel the same way. I never thought I’d be the man to settle down, even when I met Liz. I would’ve regretted not committing to her and letting go of all that easy pus-“ he looks down in his arms and I see Sammy look up at him and smile. He clears his throat, “I would’ve regretted not giving her a chance and keeping up with the lifestyle I had. I wouldn’t have this life I’m living now. I wish I would’ve found something sooner, maybe it would’ve been more stable for you and for Trev. I hate that you seem so cynical when it comes to women and relationships.”
