Harlan looks almost impressed.

“Grant would have hated that.”

“You don’t get to say my brother’s name.”

“I knew him better than you think.”

“You knew him for one mission.”

“I knew what he was capable of.”

“And that frightened you.”

Harlan smiles.

“No.”

“Then why did you order seventeen men to kill eight Rangers?”

Hampton looks between us.

Harlan’s gaze drops to my body camera.

“He knows you’re recording,” Hampton says.

“I know.”

Harlan moves his pistol toward him.

“Be quiet.”

Hampton grips the bars.

“You left me in a federal prison for fifteen years.”

“You failed.”

“I kept your name out of every investigation.”

“You kept yourself alive.”

“You taught me well.”

Sheriff Tate moves along the wall beside me.

Harlan sees him.

“Stop there, Sheriff.”

Tate stops.

“You’re surrounded.”

“Then why haven’t you arrested me?”

“You’re pointing a gun at my prisoner.”

Hampton looks offended.
