“They’re a lot better than what I did,” he said.
She laughed. “I know, right? Bruce, the artist you got in touch with, his work is absolutely amazing. I think I want to go back and add little bits.”
“How about you live with that first?” he said.
She had done one arm, and he was not going to lie, it did look sexy. She had also changed her hair, cut off some of the length, and even died some streaks a dark shade of purple. They were little changes, and each one seemed to make her happier. Bolt still refused to sign the divorce papers.
“What did you call me for?” he asked, folding his arms across his chest as Morwenna had told him it was an emergency, and so far, all she had done was shown him her tattoo.
He knew his relationship with Morwenna was proving difficult with the club. By “relationship,” he meant “friendship.”
Nothing had happened between him and Morwenna, although she kept trying to set him up with different women. To appease her, he went on one date with a woman who loved cats. They had nothing to talk about, and when he mentioned he’d done jail time, she went to the ladies’ room and never returned, which he was thankful for. He was a dog person, not a cat person. Not that he’d ever hurt cats. Any person that hurt animals was a piece of shit in his book.
He’d been busy at the club, as there had been more drugs found, this time located in a high school trash bin, and there had even been a death outside of town, an overdose. None of it had anything to do with the Romano Mafia.
They had already done the necessary checks, and it would seem there are some drugs doing the rounds on their turf as well. It didn’t look good for either of them.
He was the one to do the investigating, and he figured Maverick was pissed at him for getting between Bolt and Morwenna. Not that it was his fault. He didn’t force Bolt to stick his dick into another woman.
Each time he had to check out a line of investigation, it meant Morwenna either stayed at the ranch alone, or went to her parents’. She didn’t check out his room at the clubhouse. There had been a few times he stopped there, not that he blamed her for wanting to keep a wide berth from the clubhouse.
Nothing had progressed between Bolt and Morwenna. He also knew relations had become strained between Storm and Morwenna as well as the other old ladies. She didn’t trust them. They broke that trust by putting Bolt’s and Star’s needs first.
Pulling out of his thoughts, he looked into Morwenna’s smiling face as she stood before several cardboard boxes. On the outside, in large bold writing, “Halloween” was written across each one.
“I need some help with this, because I might have a teeny-tiny problem with heights. It’s no big deal, but I would really like to decorate the house for Halloween. I’ve always wanted to do it, and every year, I go and buy a little something, so I can decorate, and I’ve always got an excuse not to.”
He had a feeling one of those excuses was because Bolt didn’t do it, or didn’t want to do it. It would seem their marriage was devoted to a lot of things Bolt didn’t want to do.
“Don’t you think it’s a little strange that a woman who can’t stand horror films loves Halloween?”
“Yes, I know how strange it is, but you know what, I don’t care. There is no law that says you have to be in love with horror to want to participate. I love Halloween, so I’m going to decorate it like it.” She let out a gasp and spread her arms wide. “I have a whole idea for the blogs I want to run. Several different kinds of cupcakes, not to mention brownies.” She giggled and clapped her hands. “Come on, it’s going to be fun.” She groaned. “You’re going to tell me you hate Halloween, aren’t you?”
“I don’t give a shit about Halloween.” He shrugged. “I get candy and cupcakes. Consider me sold. Are you going to tell me how you want these going up?”
Morwenna already had the stepladders out, and she butted them as he climbed up to the top and instructed him on what to do.
He was not exactly happy with heights himself, but he so loved to see her happy, that he worked through them and just made sure he held on tightly. Once the lights were up, he turned them on, but seeing as it was already daylight, there was no way to determine if they looked good or not.
Instead, he helped Morwenna, and she had gathered up a collection, and he didn’t just think she enjoyed it, but he believed she was a little addicted. She had graveyard, Frankenstein’s, ghouls, monsters, and Halloween signs. It looked really good, and he did think for a short time it seemed a little cluttered, but he wasn’t going to say anything to her. She looked so happy.
Morwenna offered to make them both some hot chocolate and cupcakes. He was interested in filling his stomach so he sent her on ahead as he put away the boxes.
After putting them away in the basement, he made his way upstairs to find Morwenna using a piping bag to squirt some whipped cream into two steaming mugs.
The sweater she wore hung off the shoulder, exposing some of her chest and collarbone. She looked so sexy, and her hair was pulled back into a ponytail, with strands spilling out either side of her face.
“Hey,” she said. “I won’t be a moment.”
She removed the bag and wrapped it in another, placing it in the fridge. Next, he saw a ghost-shaped marshmallow being placed on top of the whipped cream, along with some sprinkles.
“For all your hard work today,” she said.
Next to his mug was a plate with two cupcakes decorated with colored frosting, along with a large cookie and a brownie.
“Wow,” he said. “I’m starting to think it should be Halloween all the time.”
She chuckled. “I’m sorry. I guess I’m like a little kid in a candy store. It’s too much, isn’t it?”
