“Sorry.” Meredith grins.
Suit shakes his head in amusement, watching me taste it.
“I think I’m going to stick to the vodka.”
“Good call,” Meredith replies, taking the last drink for herself. She walks around the bar and comes back next to me. “You want to play some pool?”
I wince, and her eyes widen. “You’ve never played pool before? What did you do at home?”
I don’t want to say that all I did was study, read, and learn how to do the books and launder money for the Bratva. I also dabbled in a little hacking. Okay, a little more than dabbling. I’m pretty damn good at it.
“Read,” I decide on. Safe and true.
Meredith perks up, pulling me away from Suit, who still has his eyes on me. “What kind of books do you read? Did you know Xanthe is an author?”
She takes me over to Xanthe to talk about her books. I actually haven’t read them, but they sound right up my alley.
Xanthe’s man, Ghost, who is low-key kind of scary, leans against the wall watching her like a hawk.
“He likes to have his eyes on me at all times.” Xanthe smirks when she sees where I’m looking. “He’s a little on the possessive side. I mean, they all are.”
Meredith looks over at Bones, one of the twins, who is also watching her. I personally can’t tell the twins apart, but they look like a certain sexy biker from a popular television show.
My eyes roam back to Suit, who is still at the bar, chatting with Angel, and I don’t miss the looks the single women are giving them.
An ugly feeling twists low in my gut. Is Suit going to spend our wedding night with one of them?
“There are three club girls,” Xanthe explains to me, frowning. “Rose, Brandy, and Janet. There are two more arriving tomorrow night for the party.”
“So they just sleep with… whoever they want?”
“Yeah, they work the bar and sleep with the single men,” she mutters, nodding her head toward another door. “That’s the pole room. The women usually dance for them, or they hook up in there.”
“The pole room?”
“They have two poles to dance on in there,” Meredith explains, lowering her voice. “Not going to lie, sometimes Bones and I go in there when I’m in the mood.”
The women here are so confident. They live life how they want to.
My shoulders sag. “You are all so experienced. Meanwhile, Romeo is the only one who has even seen me in lingerie. No man has seen me naked, and my own husband doesn’t want to have sex with me.”
Meredith almost chokes on her drink. “What?”
I’m about to repeat it when she covers my mouth with her hand. “Don’t ever repeat that.”
“Why? I think it’s common knowledge my husband wants nothing to do with me.” It’s the alcohol talking. I’m usually the suffer-in-silence type.
“I meant the Romeo thing,” Meredith whispers, her hazel eyes wide.
“There’s a lot to unpack there,” Xanthe mutters, stepping closer to wrap her arm around me. She glances over my head, and I know she’s staring at Suit. “I know this wasn’t a love match, but that doesn’t mean the two of you can’t develop something. You just need to get to know each other.”
I shake my head. “I’m not his type.”
“Who said that?” Meredith asks, steel in her tone.
“He did,” I admit, shrugging. “It is what it is. Our marriage is in name only. It’s not all bad. At least I’m away from my father. Suit said he wouldn’t hurt me.”
Xanthe’s hand tightens around me, and the two of them share a look. “No one here is going to hurt you. We can promise you that.”
