“Because we picked songs; it’s a thing, and I need yours.”
“I’ll start listening.”
“Promise?”
“I promise.”
“Good.”
I glance at my list. “And then you have to tell me which one is your favorite.”
“Deal.”
There's a pause, then he says, “I'm heading right to you after practice tomorrow.”
“What?”
“To come to your game.”
I sit up straighter. “My game?”
“Your first field hockey game.”
“You're coming?” I smile.
“Of course I'm coming.”
My heart does that stupid little flip again. “You’re really going to come watch?”
“Yep.”
“Do you know anything about field hockey?”
“I know you run around with a stick.”
I laugh. “That is not enough.”
“I know my girlfriend plays, so I’ll be to as many as I can.”
“You're going to cheer for me?”
“Loudly.” He chuckles.
Something warm settles in my chest. “Okay.”
“Okay?”
“You can come.”
“Good.”
I smile. “And you better cheer.”
“I will.”
“How loud?”
“Loud enough that you know I'm there.”
