My breath caught. Noah’s charcoal black eyes held mine prisoner.

“Because now I know you want me too…” he stroked my lip gently, and I fought the overwhelming urge to take his finger into my mouth. I shuddered.

“For now,” he said with an exasperated sigh. “I have to let you go home.”

I nodded robotically. His finger was still on my mouth. His eyes were still on my mouth.

I wanted badly to melt into him once again. I wanted to give in to this need coiling deep within me.

God, I wished I could taste him just one more time.

Chapter six

Alibi

NOAH

Iwatched as the car pulled away, mesmerized. I was still in shock. My mind barely registered her swift glance over the shoulder, and weak wave. Before I knew it, the car disappeared around the corner, and she was gone.

I kept replaying our encounter in my mind. Kissing Delane was on repeat, and her soft little moans would be a staple in my dreams for weeks to come, I was sure. My lips still burned from the feeling of her mouth on mine.

When she parted her legs…holy hell. I didn’t know she had that inside her.

Speaking of inside her…

Before I could think about it anymore, Damian practically dragged me back into the building. He forced me into a secluded space between the entrance and the double doors to the outside

“You don’t have any priorities in order,” Damian snapped out, his forehead furrowed with lines. “Not a single fucking thing. You literally think with your fucking dick 110% of the time!”

Normally, Damian’s comments might have brought a smile to my mouth. Or even provoked a debate. But I could tell that something was up, more so than what we had dealt with so far. He was beyond stressed, and something about his nervous pacing was beginning to freak me out.

“I’m sorry,” I said, even though I wasn’t. I wasn’t sure how, but I understood in the moment that the reason for Damian’s stress was bigger than this moment and I had to take some time to figure out what my brother needed from me.

“What is wrong?” I added.

“What’s wrong? Really?” Damian yanked me by the arm closer to the window, further from any prying eyes or ears. His voice lowered to a mere whisper.

“The other officers want to interview us—you mainly—as potential suspects for our Father’s stabbing.”

I blanked. That was it. That was enough to pull Delane’s beautiful face out of my mind for the time being.

“What? Why?”

Damian clenched his fists. “Your little redhead told them that you were gone for half the night, Noah. I was listening in to the whole conversation from Richmond’s walkie. Her questions literally painted a picture that you were MIA during the time of the attack. Do you know how bad this looks?”

I wasn’t sure how to respond. Delane wouldn’t have said anything untrue. She probably only answered the way she knew how. I bit the inside of my cheeks. Fuck. This wasn’t good. I could see how the officers might look to me with suspicion.

Damian leaned in closely, his jaw tightening with tension. The worry seeping from his demeanor was upfront and personal, and seeing him like this, scared me.

“Noah, listen to me,” he began. “You aren’t going to like what I’m about to suggest.”

I nodded, trying to keep myself calm. “Say it.”

Damian swallowed. “I think it might have been…Silas.”

My mouth nearly dropped. “What?” I couldn’t stop the disbelief from my tone.

“I told you, you wouldn’t like it.” Damian repeated.
