He surrendered himself fully to the moment, his senses overwhelmed by the heady rush of pleasure that enveloped them both. When he felt and tasted her convulse against his mouth, he slid on the condom and covered her body with his own.

“Whatever happens now, there’s no going back,” he warned.

To his surprise, she laughed and dug her nails slightly into his shoulders. “Don’t hold back on me,” she said with a smile.

A while later, they lay in his bed listening to the light rain outside.

In Avery’s arms, he found solace, redemption, and a love that transcended all boundaries. Lucas knew with absolute certainty that this was just the beginning of their journey together, a journey filled with endless possibilities and the promise of an adventure like he’d never had with anyone before.

Avery was different than what he would have imagined for himself. She was better than he could have even dreamed.

He heard her stomach growl, and his followed almost immediately.

Laughing, Avery shifted slightly. “We forgot to have dinner.”

“Yeah, I guess we had our minds on other things.” He frowned. “I think I even forgot to lock the doors downstairs.”

“It’s a good thing we’re in Pride.” She shifted to look down at him. Her long red hair fell all around her face and shoulders.

She looked like a pixie, a goddess, the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with in this very bed.

Reaching up, he cupped her face and pulled her down for a kiss. Her stomach growled again.

“Okay.” He laughed with her. “Food first.” He shifted and climbed out of bed. “We’ll use the kitchen downstairs so we can lock up.”

He pulled on his jeans, glancing over as she put on her yoga pants again and then, to his surprise, tugged on his T-shirt. She looked sexy as hell in his shirt, even with it hitting her mid-thigh.

“Look on the bright side. Now you can try out your new ovens.” She took his hand and followed him downstairs.

“Right,” he said, holding the door open for her.

As the rain continued falling outside the newly renovated kitchen, he settled on making them some scrambled eggs with ham and toast.

As he cracked eggs into a bowl and whisked them with practiced ease, Avery jumped up on the countertop to watch him work.

Lucas couldn’t help but chuckle at the sight, the contrast between Avery’s casual attire and the elegance of the newly renovated professional kitchen.

“I love watching a sexy man make me a fancy meal at an ungodly hour during a rainstorm.”

Lucas rolled his eyes playfully. “It’s just eggs,” he replied, his tone laced with amusement. “Nothing too fancy.”

“Anything I don’t have to make myself is a culinary masterpiece. Trust me.” She laughed.

“Well, it’s not much,” he added, feeling a little self-conscious and wondering if he should have done something better for them.

As he poured the eggs into a sizzling skillet, Avery hopped off the countertop and sauntered over to him, her movements fluid and graceful.

“I’m sure they’ll be delicious,” she said, her voice filled with confidence. “After all, everything tastes better when it’s made with passion.” She leaned up and traced her mouth over his jaw.

When he reached for her, however, she stepped away. “I’ll get us something to drink.” She walked over to the large refrigerators.

“There’s some orange juice,” he called out as she disappeared inside. With a flick of his wrist, he expertly scrambled the eggs. The familiar sound of their sizzle somehow comforted him and had his racing heart rate slowing.

How many times in his youth had he turned to cooking to find inner peace? So many.

“You love this, don’t you?” she asked, setting a glass of juice beside him.

He smiled and nodded. “It’s my passion.”
