Her eyes dulled a little as she looked down. “I didn’t know what my passion was”—her eyes moved up to his—“until recently. This place, it’s filled something inside me that no other job has.”

He shifted and wrapped his arm around her as he turned off the flame. “You and me both.” He kissed the top of her head.

As they savored their late-night meal, they talked about other passions they had and went over plans for opening day, and she filled him in on each of their new hires.

“So, what’s your favorite thing to do on a lazy Sunday afternoon?” Avery asked with a yawn as they headed back upstairs.

Lucas sighed, a thoughtful expression crossing his face. “Besides cooking, I love taking long walks in the park,” he replied, his voice tinged with nostalgia. “There’s something about being surrounded by nature that just soothes the soul.”

“I’m more of a romantic comedy kind of girl,” she replied with another yawn. “There’s nothing like a good love story to lift your spirits and warm your heart.”

He pulled her into his arms. “My television is in storage.”

She chuckled. “We can watch a movie some other night. Right now, I’m far too tired.”

Then she surprised him by rolling over on top of him, her legs caging him in. “At least for a movie.” She leaned in to brush her lips across his.
