He nodded and smiled. “Is okay?”
“I wouldn’t offer if it wasn’t, and I always want you to feel free to ask when you want it, okay?”
He exhaled in relief. “‘Kay.”
I opened my shirt and repositioned Casey so he could latch on.
The sweet cooing sounds he made as he sucked drove home the fact that I wanted this every day. It was silly to think that far ahead. I was getting ahead of myself, but I couldn’t find the shits to give.
This felt too good, too right.
Casey drank his fill and then curled up with his head on my lap as we watched the rest of the movie. When it ended, I turned it off and put his blanket away.
As I was getting ready to close the lid on his ottoman, Casey cleared his throat to get my attention. “I saw you at the club before last night.”
That surprised me because it meant that I’d been on his radar before he got drunk. Nothing about him said he regretted it, and for that, I was grateful. Drunk regrets were the last thing I wanted. “I remember you, too. At the last rave, you wanted milk, but it was all gone. That’s why I sent the first cup over for you.”
“That was so nice of you!” He bounced in his seat. “I don’t know if I said thank you last night, but thank you. It was so yummy.”
“You’re welcome, but I just wish it stayed yummy. I don’t know when it was switched out with booze, but I expressed that cup just for you.”
He bounced off the couch and came to me, wrapping his arms around me. “It was the best milk I ever had.”
I chuckled. “I’m happy to hear it, sweetheart.”
He yawned again. “Is it naptime yet?”
“Absolutely. Do you want to say goodbye now so you can take a nap, or do you want me to stay while you rest?” I had thoughts, but I kept my face neutral so he didn’t feel pressure one way or the other.
“Please stay.” There was a short pause, and he looked up from under his lashes. “And tuck me in?”
I settled him in bed, and the greedy boy asked if he could have milkies again. It had only been an hour, so I knew he wasn’t thirsty for the milk as much as the suckling. I was happy to provide both.
I slipped into the bed beside him and watched as he drank until he fell asleep.
His nap wasn’t long, and I didn’t dare move, not wanting to wake him up. Instead, I watched his face and wondered what sweet boys like him dreamed about. Was it about having a Daddy to take care of him or maybe goats or bears on adventures?
By the time he woke up, it was too late to go see the goats. When I told him that, he shrugged it off. “That’s okay. We can go another time, Daddy Jason.”
He wasn’t calling me Daddy, but I understood why. We hadn’t had a conversation about that yet. Daddy Jason was a step in the right direction. It showed he respected my role as a Daddy and that I was more than my role.
“I’m going to get going, sweetheart.”
He looked at the clock, surprised by the time. “Oh, wow. I didn’t mean to take up your day.”
“You didn’t. It was a wonderful way to spend the day, and I hope I get to see you again soon.”
“You will.” He grabbed my hand and walked me to the door. I loved that he was feeling more comfortable with my touch.
Taking his lead, I leaned in and kissed his forehead.
He threw his arms around me and hugged me close again. My sweet boy was a cuddler.
“Text me if you need anything.”
He opened his mouth like he was about to say something but then closed it again. Holding the words inside. “I will. I promise.”
I left with a smile on my face, loving the day we had together and looking forward to the next one.
