He grinned. “Me too. Hey, are you doing anything next weekend?”

I chewed on my lip. “I’ll have Rosie. Why?”

“My teammate’s having a Halloween party next Saturday. I already asked Mari to watch Liam. You should come with me.”

“If you want me to.”

“I do. It’ll be fun. We could blow off some much-needed steam. I know it’s been like we’re two ships passing in the night, but…”

I held up a hand to stop him. “I’m just as busy. I totally get it. Okay, I’ll talk to Mari.”

“She’ll do it. She’ll already have Liam.”

“Okay,” I relented.

He turned off his car, and we walked over to the elevator to go up to his floor. I hadn’t realized how late it was. Hal tried to get me to go home earlier, but I had been in the zone.

Logan led me to his door and held it open for me to enter. My sister was sitting up watching TV, waiting for us. She gave me a big smile. “Hey, you’re out late.”

“Working,” I told her and walked into Liam’s bedroom. Logan followed me as he checked on Liam while I gently took Rosie out of the crib. She stirred while I held her to my chest and got her things.

“You want help?” Logan whispered.

I shook my head and padded out of the room. He closed the door behind him, and Mari got her things together. We’d pick up her car tomorrow morning, so no more sharing. That had been annoying this week, but it was okay because she did so much for me with Rosie that I didn’t mind.

“Ready?” I asked my sister.

“Yup. See ya, Logan!”

“I’ll pick you up next Saturday,” he called out to me.

I waved a hand at him to acknowledge that while trying to ignore the curious glance my sister gave me.

“Ooh, are you going to the Halloween party with him?” she asked once we were in the hallway.

“Yeah. Can you watch Rosie with Liam?”

She nodded. “Of course I can.”

I frowned. “It’s my weekend, but Seth flaked again, so not like it matters.”

“Lil, I love you, but you need to file for custody.”

“It’s fine. Let’s get you home, okay?”

She frowned at me but didn’t argue further. Thank God for that. I didn’t have the energy to start with her. I already heard it enough from Mom.

“What are you going to wear for the party?”

I grinned. I knew exactly what to wear to impress Logan. I might give him a heart attack, but if he wanted a fun night together, I’d give him his gamer fantasy.

“Is this ridiculous?” I asked Veronica as she stood behind me in her bathroom doing my hair. I had a ‘mom-bob,’ so I couldn’t do that much with my hair, but she’d pulled the front pieces back and made an intricate braid behind my head.

Veronica gave me a giddy smile. “No, you look great. Plus, it’s Halloween. Who cares?” She stood back and put a hand on her stomach. “Do I look pregnant yet?”

I shook my head. “Not quite.”

Veronica and I got dressed together for the Halloween party, while we waited for Logan to get here. I dropped Rosie off at Logan’s, but he refused to come out of his room to say anything to me, just that he’d pick me up later. I kept nagging him about his costume, but he said it was a secret.
