Back at my house, Simon is doing his best to get me to smile. I am practically burrowing into him on my couch. But even being in his arms can’t bring me to smile. It was my visit to Mrs. Stapleton today that did it. Seeing all her bruising tore me up. Knowing that she had been beaten in her home to find out where Bella was staying, leaves me heartbroken.
“I can’t believe he’d staked out the school and followed her, hoping she would give homework to Bella. He was evil, Simon.”
“But she’s getting better. That’s why she asked you to come over today.”
“I know. She was so nice. She said it wasn’t my fault. It was out of my control, and I shouldn’t feel bad. It was the person who hired the man. That’s another thing that I can’t believe, that one of Bella’s half-brothers was trying to kill her. How could a man do that to a little girl?”
“The Nashville police arrested him.”
Now the tears started. “Of course they did.” I was in Simon’s arms. I always cried all over him. “But why? You told me that Richard and Carla have motives, but Brantley didn’t.”
“I know, Baby. That’s why they gave him bail. The D.A. doesn’t have a motive. Dex has brought in Lydia Archer to figure out what his motive is. Apparently, Lydia is as good as her husband Clint.”
“Do you have any idea when the Midnight Delta team is going to be back?”
“Even if I was the Commander, with a lot of those missions we won’t know the duration. They’ll last as long as they need to last. I’m sorry, Honey. Are you missing Drake?”
“Yeah. But not nearly as much, because I have you,”
His eyelids lower, and his silver eyes get dark with passion.
“I feel the same way, Baby. Having you in my life has pushed away the darkness and let in the sun.”
Hearing those words, it feels like at last my heart has burst open. This man is my soulmate. I reach up and give him a slow, warm, wet kiss and I feel him shudder.
I lean back and give him a sultry smile. “You’re the miracle worker in this relationship. You’ve freed me from my past. I feel like I can fly.”
“Trenda, let’s agree to disagree, and we can both be right, shall we?” I love it when he laughs.
“All right.”
He lifts me off the couch and carries me down the hall to my bedroom. He stands me up beside the bed and we both slowly undress. I’ve come to learn that watching like this is part of the build-up. Part of foreplay.
I lie down on the bed, and he kneels beside me. He strokes his hands down my ribs, down my hips then down the outside of my thighs.
“Quit teasing,” I beg. I begin to open my legs.
“You’re beautiful. I love it when you spread yourself for me. Only ever for me.”
“Yes,” I sigh. “Only for you.”
He brushes his hands up the insides of my legs but avoids my sex. The tease. I moan.
His hands span my waist, then move to caress my stomach, his thumb tracing my belly button. I arch up. “Simon. Enough,” I wail.
He bends and then he kisses me as magic flows between us. It feels like I’m caught in a whirlwind of want. Then finally he grasps a condom from off the nightstand.
“Finally,” I sigh.
After I’m sheathed, I stay still. I soak in her beauty. I smile as she wraps her heels around my ass, but I press her thighs back onto the bed.
“Easy. We’re taking this slow.”
“No,” she wails.
I bend down and give her a long, wet, kiss that leaves me dizzy. She tastes so good, I can’t get enough of her. When she bites my lower lip, I laugh.
“Bad girl.”
