Thud.

This time the shot hit the glove box and left a fist-sized hole. The guy was using some serious ammo. He definitely wasn’t fucking around.

Jase looked up at the parking structure. The guy had to be at the south end, based on the trajectory of the shots. He pulled out his phone and sent Mateo, Tanner, and Jonas a quick text, letting them know what he’d figured out.

What he wouldn’t give for a normal SEAL comm system.

Suddenly Jase heard three consecutive shots ring out. Then he heard a woman scream, then a man.

Dammit! The asshole is shooting at the civilians again!

What purpose did the Kraken have to be trying to kill a potential client? Had they figured out that it was really Omega Sky they were meeting? If so, how?

Maybe I should quit thinking about this shit and pay attention to what’s going on around me!

Jase shot out the backseat window. He flew over the car door’s window frame toward the parking garage. He knew there was no chance that his bullet would reach that far, but hopefully, it would bring the sniper’s attention back to him.

One of the sniper’s shots obliterated the steering wheel. Jase heard another shot, but it didn’t hit the vehicle he was in. He took another shot up at the parking garage.

“Aim at me, you motherfucker. Aim at me.”

Jase’s phone vibrated.

It was Jonas.

He swiped to answer it.

“Mateo took care of him. Hightail it out of there before the police arrive.”

Jase wasted no time. He shoved his gun and phone into his pocket and tried to open the door. It wouldn’t work.

Goddammit! Backseat child lock!

He started to climb over the seat to the front.

“Officer, one of them is in there.”

Damned teenagers, weren’t they supposed to be playing video games?

He heard them coming toward the passenger side of the G-Wagen. Jase stopped climbing. He reached over the seat and unlocked the back door. He shoved it open and ducked low, walking slowly until he reached a crowd of people who were standing around, trying to help the injured, but basically retelling their stories to one another. It was the perfect group to blend in with.

Thank God for Gideon Smith, Jase thought for the millionth time. Once again, he’d come through with the best possible accommodations. It sure beat where they had been staying.

“Since you’re supposedly hotshot American business executives, you need to look like, smell like, sound like, and room like, hotshot American businessmen,” he’d said over the phone this morning.

Jase had understood the clothes, but these connecting kick-ass suites at the Armani Hotel in the world's tallest skyscraper? It was beyond his comprehension.

“Pretty sweet, huh?” Tanner said as he walked into the living room with a towel around his waist. “I could get used to this.”

“How much do you think this whole thing costs?” Jase asked.

“I checked it out. One night here covers three mortgage payments for me,” Mateo answered from where he was sitting on a leather couch in front of a huge ass flat-screen TV. “For the connecting suites? That means one night pays for half my year of mortgage payments on my condo.” Mateo shook his head in disbelief. “Jase, this ain’t right.”

“You look like hell,” Tanner said to Jase. “You might want to go take a shower, then let us know what happened after we left you. We got your text, but we want to know the full story.”

“Where’s Jonas?” Jase asked.
