Chris frowned. “In December? Through mountain snow?” Chrome stared at her, and she rolled her eyes. “I'm not stupid.”
His mouth twitched. “Didn't say you were.”
“You implied it earlier,” she reminded.
“Still holding onto that?” he asked.
“Forever.” Fuck, he liked her.
Tempest looked at Howler. “What do you think?”
Howler leaned back. “We don't send a full crew.”
Chrome nodded. “For once, I agree.”
Howler flipped him off. “A big group will look like an invasion.”
“It could start a war,” Chrome said.
Christmas crossed her arms. “So a small team.”
Tempest nodded. “Me, you—”
“No.” Everyone looked at Christmas. Chris shook her head. “You stay here.”
Tempest's eyebrows rose. “You're giving your Prez orders?”
“Consider it a recommendation,” Chris said.
“Sounded like an order to me,” Tempest said.
“Sorry, Prez. I learned it from Chrome,” Chris joked. Chrome grinned, but Tempest didn't. Chris continued. “Dark Chaos needs its Prez here. We don't know whether that package was meant to lure leadership out.” That was smart. Chrome hadn't considered it, but Howler had—his expression said so.
Christmas looked at him. “Same for Silverfang.”
Howler nodded reluctantly. “Agreed.”
Mayhem lifted a hand. “I'm going.”
Moon immediately said, “No.”
He looked offended. “Why?”
“Because we just finished getting night root out of you,” Chris said.
“Six months ago,” he challenged.
“And I remember,” Moon said. Mayhem muttered something else under his breath that Chaos didn’t catch.
Moon stared at him, and he sighed. “Yes, Doc.” Chrome laughed, and Mayhem pointed at him. “Your turn is coming.” Chrome's amusement died, and he glanced at Christmas. Mayhem grinned like an asshole.
Tempest sighed. “Then Chris and Chrome will go.”
“Red, too,” Chris said.
Chrome shook his head. “No.”
Christmas slowly turned. “Why?”
