Moon opened her grandmother’s journal. “The Hollow Pack may not be a pack in the traditional sense.”

Howler leaned forward. “What does that mean?”

“They may be followers,” Tempest said.

“Of who?” Mayhem asked.

“I don’t know,” Moon admitted.

Chrome groaned. “That phrase is getting old.”

Chris glanced at him. “You got better information?”

“No,” Chrome grumbled.

“Then hush,” Chris said. Chrome smiled—actually smiled and Mayhem’s gaze moved between them. Well, that was interesting. Chris didn’t seem to notice the way that Chrome had responded to her, or maybe she did and was ignoring it. Either way, Mayhem filed it away for later.

Moon turned several pages in the old journal. “My grandmother wrote about a woman called the Blood Seer.” The room went silent. Mayhem hated the name immediately.

“Sounds friendly,” Chrome muttered.

Moon continued. “She wasn’t an Alpha.”

“How old are these stories?” Tempest asked.

“More than a century,” Moon said.

Howler frowned. “So she’s dead.”

Moon shrugged. “Probably.”

Mayhem looked at Moon. “You don’t believe that she’s dead, do you?”

She met his gaze. “I don’t know what I believe anymore.”

Chris leaned forward. “What did she do?”

Moon ran her finger over the page. “She believed certain bloodlines were created to serve specific purposes.”

“Created by who?” Tempest asked.

“The moon,” she breathed.

Chrome sighed. “Of course.”

Moon shot him a look. “I’m reading what is written here. I’m not just making this up off the top of my head, Chrome.”

“Keep going,” Tempest ordered. “And you, shut up,” she said, pointing to Chrome.

“The Blood Seer believed silver wolves descended from the first healers.” Mayhem looked at Moon’s hair with silver streaks running through it. She was a silver-white wolf, and right now, he didn’t like where this was going.

“And?” he asked.

Moon swallowed. “She believed their blood could strengthen, or destroy, mate bonds.”

Mayhem’s wolf snarled. “No.”

Moon looked at him. “No what?”
