Mayhem looked toward the mountains visible in the distance. “We split up.”

“No,” Moon said instantly.

“Hear me out,” he said.

“No,” she said again.

“Moonlight,” he challenged.

“Absolutely not,” Moon said.

Chris looked between them. “Can you two postpone the mating argument?”

“We're not mating,” Moon snapped.

Mayhem smiled. “Yet.” She elbowed him, and Chris sighed. Mayhem pointed at the map. “Tempest, Howler, Red, and Blue, take the bikes around the bridge. Find an off-road route.”

“And us?” Chrome asked.

“We find somewhere to hide the SUV and wait.”

Moon frowned. “You want to separate?”

“Temporarily,” he said.

“That feels like a bad idea,” Moon insisted.

“It probably is,” he agreed. Mayhem looked at Chris. “What does your gut say?”

Christmas blinked. “My gut?”

“You're the one who's been dreaming about this place for months,” Mayhem said. Chris looked toward the mountains and for several seconds, she said nothing.

“We don't split up,” Chris said.

Mayhem nodded because he trusted that. “Okay.”

Chrome looked at her. “That gut that strong?”

“Yes,” she said.

“Then we don't split,” Chrome agreed. Chris stared at him and Mayhem almost smiled. Chrome hadn't questioned her—not even a little.

Moon's fingers tightened around Mayhem's, and her entire body went rigid. “Moon?” She turned toward the window, and Mayhem followed her gaze, but found nothing except for trees, darkness, and the road. “What do you see?”

Moon whispered, “We're being followed.”

Chrome immediately checked the mirror. “I don't see anyone.”

“They're there,” Moon insisted. Mayhem's wolf surged, and he twisted around, but still saw nothing.

“How many?” he asked.

Moon closed her eyes. “Three.”

“Are they in vehicles?” he asked.

“No,” she breathed.
