“I like him all…messy.”
Clint lifts his head, his cheeks full of chocolate, and smiles. “Aw, babe.”
Lorelei presses a hand to her head and waves. “Go, go. Before I lose my mind.”
She whirls on Sofia and Fox and starts barking orders that have the two of them going red, then white. I’m curious and then less so.
I glance to the side and discover Khione has slunk away. I turn with a snarl, scanning the crowd rapidly until I find her leaning in, talking to that big boof head alpha, Harvest.
I’m going to harvest him if this keeps up.
Like she can sense me watching her, her frown disappears, and she turns, looking until she finds me. The smile that blooms across her face goes a long way toward easing my rage.
Harvest leaves, and she floats towards us, looking like someone who should be walking in a gossamer gown and sporting wings and flower crowns.
Damn it. I am gone for her.
As she approaches, she wraps her arm around mine, leaning up, smiling, and my anger drains away, the world drains away, leaving just me and her.
“Shall we go on a date, my alpha?”
I don’t want to, but I can’t say no to her.
I nod shortly. Spectre barks, and people around us who have been staring at him yelp, then laugh.
Khione tows me towards where the other matches are walking away.
We head straight up to the Sol house.
“Um,” I glance at her in confusion, but…there are cobwebs everywhere. Magpie babies are snatching them up and rolling in them, running off and destroying everything. The adults are hanging off the lights and pecking the plastic Jack-o'-lanterns.
Khione giggles.
“Oh, look.”
I turn, following where she’s pointing. A horse reaches out to the porch, slow and sneaky like, grabs a skeleton, and takes off.
“GALE!”
Cordelia races after her horse as it gallops off up the street, but a teeny tiny dachshund comes out in a ghost costume and barks at Spectre.
“Aw, they are matching,” Khione screeches.
I have to resist rolling my eyes hard.
The little tail wags frantically, and Spectre boofs it, then lets out one soft but deep bark.
The pup goes nuts and then rolls onto its back, wiggling.
“Okay, that is cute,” Khione whispers.
“Matches, you are going to lead each other through the house. That’s all you have to do. Go to five rooms, collect the token, and guide them out again.”
“Sounds easy, Mrs S. Is one of those rooms the kitchen?” Clint drawls.
She turns red, but Fox grabs her arm and whispers frantically. She inhales, exhales and inhales again.
“You will be guiding each other without your senses. For the first room, you must guide them by laying down a clue, a sign that will tell them and only them which way you want them to go. This is a physical guide.”
