Auston hung up.
Well. His day sure had gone differently than he’d assumed it would when he’d first woken up in pain.
He closed his eyes, letting the contentment take him away.
Chapter Ten
CHASE
As much as Chase had been looking forward to using the dildo Aunix had sent him, spending the day comforting the Alpha had been just as good.
It wasn’t lost on Chase that he was always the one running to Aunix with his problems, and it was always Aunix who stood strong, being an adult and giving him advice.
Chase had seen beyond the veil now. Aunix was just a person with his own insecurities and flaws.
The anger laced into his voice as he talked about his injury had made Chase’s whole body clench up. He had plenty of experience with that kind of stuff—not just because hockey injuries were an unavoidable part of the sport, but because he had his own disability to contend with. Not being able to produce pheromones without knocking people out, not being able to scent or be scented…it wasn’t like Chase had worked through all his emotions on the subject, but he’d had to accept that he was different. That he fell short in some ways.
Maybe that deficit enhanced other parts of him, though.
So many people seemed to depend on scent to tell them the truth, but Chase had been forced to pay attention to other things. To little expressions and mannerisms and patterns of behaviour. He’d needed all those clues to survive his mother’s moods, and it helped him now with the realities of being part of a team, especially considering at least one member genuinely didn’t like him.
So, sure, bodies didn’t always do what you wanted them to, but that wasn’t a good reason to hate them. To be angry and punish them.
He didn’t want Aunix to treat anybody like that, least of all himself.
Chase had gotten to see—or hear, as the case may be—how Aunix’s sharp edges had softened. How he had allowed himself to be distracted and taken care of.
It had been so, so nice. Chase loved being pampered, but treating Aunix was just as good.
Of course, that didn’t mean he wasn’t still aching to use the toy.
It was miraculous how well his and Aunix’s schedules lined up. They managed to find another day in which Chase only had practice in the morning and optional skate the next day, meaning he could skip it if he was too sore.
And he definitely intended to be too sore.
He’d checked in with Aunix in the morning. Even though it had been five days since Aunix had been feeling sore, he still worried about him.
Feeling good, honey, Aunix had replied, so Chase had prepared for the day.
He took a long, luxurious shower, shaving his legs and moisturising thoroughly when he got out. He dried and styled his hair, put some of the shimmer Sammy had gifted him on his shoulders and thighs, making him gleam. He plucked the few hairs around his nipples and made sure his feet were nice and smooth, nails cut and buffed.
He set his camera up low beside the bed. He’d found out that it really helped to hang off the edge of the bed as he used the plugs, arms crossed on the mattress so he could move up and down even when his legs were shaking from pleasure.
If he was facing the camera, he could put his elbows on the bed and it’d offer him some support. It helped to keep his face out of the frame, too, tilted back and neck exposed, something Aunix went crazy over.
Chase was buzzing with the anticipation of how the dildo would feel, but most of all, he couldn’t wait to see what Aunix’s reaction would be. Having the Alpha pant and curse just watching him made Chase feel like he was made of gold.
He resisted the urge to insist that Aunix call him earlier than the appointed time, knowing the Alpha would just tell him to be patient. Would even make him wait a little longer just to tease, and Chase would legitimately explode into a million, billion pieces if he had to wait any longer.
“Hey, Daddy,” Chase greeted breathlessly as soon as he called. He didn’t care that he was being overly eager and obvious in his want—he literally didn’t have enough brain capacity left to be coy.
“Hey, baby. How’s your day been?”
“Good. Great. So good. Okay, should we start? I’ve set—”
Aunix’s laugh cut him off. “What, you don’t want to talk? Ask me how I am?”
Chase wiggled impatiently where he was sitting in the middle of the bed. “I already asked you how you were this morning,” he complained. “But, I mean…are you okay?”
