But I will figure it out. I have to. I just need to get to her.

Just then my phone rings, breaking my chain of thoughts.

Roy. I answer without taking my eyes off the road.

“Where the hell are you?”

I clench my jaw, unable to answer. I am afraid I will say something that will just add more to my trouble.

“Dominic.”

Something in his voice makes my stomach drop. The tone and the urgency are worrying me to no end.

“What?” I ask, my patience snapping.

“It’s Sienna.”

I tighten my grip on the steering wheel. My heart drops in my chest hearing her name.

Something tells me this is not going to be something I want to hear.

I cross my fingers like a child praying this is not what I think it is.

“What happened?”

“She left.”

My heart stops working, or it feels exactly like that.

“What do you mean she left?”

“She packed her bags and left.” His voice comes out clipped.

“Where is she?”

“I tried to stop her, but she wouldn’t listen. She said she was done.” He continues rambling, his own voice laced with anxiety.

“Roy,” I cut him off in the middle. My voice comes out sharper than I intended it to. “Where is she?”

“The airport.”

The airport? She wouldn’t just leave me, would she? How could she?

“What airport?”

“JFK.”

For a second, I am unable to process his words. My mind can’t register the fact that she would leave just like that. Without hearing me out. Without an explanation. Like I meant nothing to her.

Then I press my foot harder against the accelerator.

“How long ago did she leave?”

“Maybe twenty minutes.”

Twenty minutes.

I could make it. I had to.
