“The type who doesn’t stop before getting exactly what he wants.”
“We have reached,” Roy says, interrupting the moment, and I try my best at hiding the scowl on my face.
“Thanks for the ride,” she says, but I step out before she can open the door herself.
She looks at me in confusion as I walk around the car and open her door. She steps out, eyeing me suspiciously.
“That wasn’t necessary.”
“I am a gentleman, cara mia.”
“Am I interrupting something?” A voice comes from behind, and Sienna side-steps me as she looks at who it is.
* * *
“What are you doing here?” she asks.
I squint at the guy who is probably a foot shorter than me, nowhere near as good-looking, and currently glaring at Sienna and me as if that’s supposed to intimidate me.
“I came here to surprise my girlfriend by coming a day before my flight,” he says, his eyes constantly shifting between her and me. “I didn’t expect to be surprised in return.”
“There’s nothing like what you are thinking,” Sienna says, almost tired, and I don’t get why he is making an issue out of a normal conversation. “Dominic was here to drop me off after work.”
“So you are on a first-name basis now,” he scoffs. “Very professional”
That’s enough.
“Look,” I say, but I don’t think Sienna ever told me his name. “What’s his name, Sienna?”
She glares at me, and I don’t know why she is mad at me. I didn’t even do anything yet.
“Mark”.
“Look, Mark,” I continue. “It was getting late, so I offered to drop her off. I don’t want this to become a problem. I assure you there’s nothing going on, and I don’t think you should be talking to her in that tone, let alone making a scene in the middle of the road.”
Mark narrows his eyes at me and takes a step forward, as if that’s supposed to intimidate me.
I could throw more than his body weight without breaking a sweat.
“Thank you for today.” Sienna turns to me before he could get any further, and my eyes momentarily soften when I look at her. “I will see you tomorrow.”
“See you.”
She doesn’t wait for me to say more as she grabs him by the arm and takes him inside.
And that sight alone sets my chest on fire.
Because I know she shouldn’t be with him.
She should be with me.
“Roy,” I call out, and he follows suit. “Get me as much information about him as you can. The more details, the better.”
“Sure,” he says. “But why me instead of Myra?”
I have known Roy for all my life. He may just be a driver to some, but for me he’s so much more than that.
“Because I trust you more than I trust anyone else.”
