I can’t lie, he has excellent taste. The way his whole building is created is a proof of that. It’s modern yet has that vintage touch in some places.
“In his cabin,” she says, and I nod. “But he’s busy right now. You’ll need to wait a few minutes.”
I narrow my eyes. I have done enough waiting in the house and then in his car. I’m not waiting another second before getting some answers.
“Thank you,” I say with a smile. “I will see what I can do.”
I don’t pay heed to what she says next as my feet follow straight to the familiar path to his office. I think about knocking, but just because he pissed me off, I don’t.
I push the door to his cabin open, catching him and his PA—Myra—by surprise.
More so, I catch him by surprise as a flicker of confusion and something else passes through Myra’s face.
“Sienna, what are you doing here?” She asks, her voice clipped. By now I’m used to her talking to me like I shouldn’t be there, and I have stopped taking it personally.
As far as I know, I haven’t given her any strong reason to dislike me, so there’s no animosity from my side.
“Yes, I’m here to talk to Mr. Wolfe,” I say, my eyes narrowed at the man who looks at me as if I hung the moon. A flutter of emotions rise in my chest when I stare at him. For a moment, I forget that I am supposed to be mad at him.
“We will discuss this later,” he says to Myra, closing the file they’re working on. “I need to pay attention to my woman.”
I try my best not to show the effect his simple words have over me. But the way he said “my woman” makes me reconsider yelling at him.
Dominic stands up as the doors click shut behind me.
“Stay right there,” I say sternly, and he raises his brow in question. A small smile tugs on his lips before he takes his seat again.
I fold my arms over my chest, hoping it will give me back the confidence I walked into this room with. Because one look at him, and all my anger, all my resolve, melts away.
It’s the way he looks at me, with so much tenderness. I truly don’t know what he sees in me sometimes. Not because I’m insecure about myself, but because no one has ever looked at me this way.
I always thought this kind of love and devotion only existed in books.
Dominic is the one who made me believe that not only does this kind of love exist in this world, but also that I could have it too.
“Care to explain why you decided to pull a hero move on me?” I ask, and the smile on his lips disappears.
“Hero move?” He asks
I roll my eyes. “Why did you call Mark? And what was the need to threaten him, Dominic?”
His face turns into a scowl. “So that loser obviously didn’t listen to a word I said and called you?”
“He didn’t call me,” I tell him, taking a few steps so I’m standing in front of him. “But he did text me to tell me what you did, along with a ‘don’t-show-me-your-face-ever-again.’”
“So you’re mad at me because of that or because I threatened him?”
I sigh, exhausted. Are all men so stupid?
“Of course I don’t give a fuck about showing him my face. But I care about you and I care about what people say about you. You’ve already done enough for me, Dom. The last thing I want is for you to get involved with a guy like Mark who doesn’t deserve a sliver of your time. There’s no need for you to mark your “territory” or whatever you did.”
“So you care about me?” He says with a teasing smile, and I seriously consider smacking his head with something.
“So you got that from everything I said?”
“I’m sorry he troubled you because of me, but I am not sorry for showing him his place. No one gets to walk away unscathed after hurting the one person I love the most in this world. The only person I love in this world. So, no, I’m not sorry about that, but I will still get on my knees and apologize to you.”
I huff at the double meaning in his words.
